the thing is, part of it DID fit the song. He had the whole section where he gave respect & RIP to some of the legends we have lost in the last year or so. It was the rest that we didn't need and all the extra bullshyt that came along with it

He does that a lot with his features. Some of the lines are actually relevant and have something to say, but most of it is covered up in random bullshyt that it doesn't even register. It's like he doesn't have anything to talk about besides a couple bars, so he crams in as much filler as possible to have a full verse.

Like the "Killer" remix. It was a big deal when Eminem called out Snoop on "Zeus" and he dedicated a whole section of his interview on New Year's Eve to talking about it. He mentions on the remix that him and Snoop are good now and they got Dr. Dre's back. This is a big deal considering what happened months ago, but you wouldn't even know or remember he said this because those lines are buried in a bunch of gibberish.

Or on "No Favors" (arguably the worst feature he's ever had in his career) when 98% of what he said had absolutely nothing to do with what Big Sean talked about. Except the last two lines. Literally the last two lines, and by that point, you're already because of how many bars he wasted.

This! I was blasting the album in the whip on my way to work. Can’t believe I’m saying this but even EMPD 2 is starting to grow on me including (albeit just a tiny bit) Em’s verse. Also, Death Row East, 40 Side, YKTV, Rare, and Count Me In go SO fukkING HARD on the highway

The hilarious thing about all of these publications (Pitchfork specifically) is for all of the edgy hipster new age hip hop they like(Aes and Dave for example) they can't appreciate Nas for his growth. And if you listen to each of these albums this one is clearly superior (I've listened to multiple albums from multiple genres and can count on one hand how many sound as good as this one maybe). Aside from Madlib/Four Tet maybe it's my biases talking but rating this anything below an 8/10 seems as hating to me.

I think with Nas is that he makes a lot of critics uncomfortable because his style of rapping forces you to really pay attention to what is being said vs how it's being said. There's a lot going on in one verse or even a few bars of a Nas song. Some people don't have that attention span. I was making a Nas mix for cousin and he didn't want any of the storytelling songs on it because he was like "I don't really have time to sit down and listen to a story".

Death row East and the song with Lauren Hill gave me chills. I stopped looking at reviews years ago for music. Just movies. These people don’t know what true hip hop is. shyt is a classic. I heard some reviews were calling his album misogynistic
