That's not to say KD wasn't deserving, which is why a lot of us Nas fans were pulling for him to win. The other albums didn't win and some weren't even nominated. He dropped a great album in KD and it was nice to see him rewarded for it even if a lot of us don't really Rock with the Grammys like that.

THIS WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE
AND NAS SOUNDS REJUVENATED.

One thing I do want to stop is this narrative that Nas NEEDED Hit Boy. They are great together. But chill wit that. Lol

I wouldn't say needed, but at the same time I don't think it's a coincidence that many of Nas' best, most undisputed albums have an exec producer who helped guide him. Illmatic (Large Pro), IWW (Steve Stoute/Trackmasters), Life Is Good (No ID), both King's Disease albums (Hit Boy). The exec producer is an important role in every genre except rap, where usually the artist just picks beats and creates an album. Berry Gordy, Quincy Jones, Robert Margouleff, Teo Macero...other genres are full of big names who helped artists channel their vision as effectively as possible. I give Hit Boy a lot of credit in that regard, not just for the KD albums but the other albums he has done with other artists recently.

I would add Salaam Remi to Life is Good. He was equally important in crafting the sound of that album.

Disrespecting the greatness of KD bc KD 2 is so dope is very weird. These type of Nas fans are no better than his worst critics who always try to downplay his music bc nothing equals to Illmatic. Let KD be its masterpiece and accept that KD 2 is its own work of art. No need to downgrade one to uplift the other. Nas & Hitboy created two great separate albums that don’t need to be compared.

KD1 disrespect ain’t gonna be tolerated that album was album of the year for a reason. shyt is phenomenal.

To be honest, I don't like like comparing nas' ( I feel the same about musicians' albums in general.) albums to one another because he has albums that are equally dope but for totally different reasons which leads to unnecessary degrading/downplaying great pieces of work, for no reason.

Those may be technically better albums but I admire the musical experimentation of Nasir, plus the KD albums are fresh, so it’s going to take a little time moving on my list.
As far as HHID some of the songs are corny, plus the whole hip hop was dead gimmick was hypocritical
