Inspired by a recent Coli thread I listened to Chronic 2001 today and was reminded his flow used to be crazy. How the hell he go from Forgot About Dre to this

Track still hits before he shows up though

That's what sucks about it. The song was going hard before that. I thought it was better than the original, and Hit Boy's beat switches made it feel like an old-school remix. Even Nas sounded more intense on this one than the original.

I forgot who said it, but they made a great point that Eminem tends to ruin the "real nikka" vibe on these songs. You're like for two minutes and then you're when the beat inevitably switches and his verse comes on. You can tell he's going to do his rappity rap thing because the beat becomes a lot more stripped back and it sounds like an acapella.

Watching what Nas has been doing this past year has been like watching a Hall of Fame athlete who people thought was nearing retirement suddenly have an MVP caliber season on their way to a championship…

…all while debunking long-running narratives and checking boxes (“what’s up with Nas’s beat selection? why doesn’t Nas have any Grammy’s? whatever happened to The Firm?”, etc.)…simply amazing to see.
