i didn't label kanye west anything, what are you talking about? white people referring to the song "N!ggas in Paris" as "N!ggas in Paris" is fine, it's the name of the song. White people taking a picture of 2 blacks guys on stage and wording it "N!ggas in Paris for real" is a different something. Forget how Nas, Kanye, me and you feel about it, how does SHE feel about it? why does she feel so comfortable tweeting that?
because she's not a racist and genuinely meant no harm.

shes not uncomfortable, the creators of the song arent uncomfortable and her black friends who actually know her arent uncomfortable. its people who are overly racial sensitive that are unconfortable and

but why? THERE IS NO REASON TO BE.

its 2012, we have a black president and hit songs called nikkas in Paris. Blacks are winning. soo much that even white people (gwyneth) want to be part of the success.

you guys are mad at someone just trying to fit in LOL. yall need to fall back on all this racial shyt and save it for when its actually called for...like when real racism occurs.

when u think about it tho?...Nas isnt even being a hypocrite tho...if u listen to his songs around that time..he speaks on it then...I still dont agree wit him at all..and he didnt say he would slap anyone having a problem with her sayin the word...he said he would slap someone FOR her in general cause she's cool people..just to clear that up..but his views on it aint in line with my views on it at all..

I can respect that. I'm really not understanding why people are saying it's hypocritical just because they disagree.

and this is my problem...whatever u cool wit in private..that's fine..but to give them a public pass aint dangerous territory imo...

Creating an environment where people have to hide their true thoughts and feelings behind closed doors is also dangerous territory imo. Everybody has a right to their opinion, whether people agree or disagree.

There's a flipside to your gatekeeper question, that being.....Who declared you or anyone else the supreme authorities and gatekeepers on who doesn't get to say it? Or better yet, who declared you or anybody else the supreme authority of what is and what is not offensive to black people? I sure as hell wasn't offended by what she said. Personally I thought it was hilarious as I tend to be cynical and tongue in cheek myself. Don't get me wrong either, I'm not riffing personally at you, as this is simply conversation, but some of you really need to get a sense of humor man. It really aint that serious.

There's a side of me wondering whether some of you are using this non-story to validate your own sense of Black Pride. Considering some of the artists that we support, for us to criticize GP over tongue and cheek humor, is a dichotomy at it's finest, and hypocrisy at it's worse.

"Oh no that lilly white girl didn't refer to them as nikkaz!! No she didn't!!" Two hours later on the way to the movies with his car windows down blasting Scarface, "I'm prejudiced to an extent, but still I kill nikkaz!"

You gotta love the irony in that and on this board.

See, I knew someone would say something like this and I really don't think I'm the authority on who can say it. I do feel it's certainly within my rights to question why someone else so vehemently proclaims that if someone doesn't agree with them, they'll slap them. That's the difference between me, and Nas.

Because honestly the tweet in and of itself isn't the biggest issue to me, it's how fast people came to her aid, like LIGHTNING fast ... and then for Nas to be on some, "she's a real nikka" shyt literally had me like :dwillhuh:.

It's all worthy of discussion because two of the biggest tastemakers in hip-hop DID name the song "nikkas In Paris". I'm just amazed at their response to the backlash of this white woman.

I agree. Nas should know better.

I stopped using the word years ago. The more i thought about it i couldnt really find evidence that we took the word ****** and changed it to nikka as a term of endearment. To me the word just became popular in music and movies so the argument that we made it a positive started to evolve as an exscuse to exploit the word for monetary gain. The word is not something used but im cool with my ppl using amongst themselves bc every community has words that they use amongst each other but if someone else says it, it makes them uncomfortable.

I understand that..but the word is STILL not accepted by the masses..shyt..even Black people dont like other Black people using it..there's still states where whites use the word in a derogatory way...there's over 400 years and counting of the oppression against us by white people and they specifically took that word and made it a negative word toward us..it didnt start off as a negative word and they took it and made it one to demean us..for CENTURIES and counting...there should be no wonder in why we should be able to take the word back as our own but there also should be no wonder in why it's a problem when a white person uses it...

Nas is a fool.

He'd really slap someone for Gwyneth Paltrow? really? and go to jail for assault

I can almost guarantee that she wouldn't reciprocate that

If these rich Blacks like Jay,Nas, Kanye,Russell are okay with white people calling them nikkas then they should speak for themselves and not the whole race. That's the problem these guys get this Hip-Hop money and start getting God complexes were they feel they are ordinary 9 to 5 peoples spokespersons.

These guys really believe they are representing us....SMH
