Listened to this nonstop for over a year when it came out. Still speaks to me when I put it on. always happy to hear the first few notes on doo rags.

Whole thing just a perfect blend of skills, flow, soul, pain, strength, introspection, braggadocio, beats, accessibility, depth, subject matter, story telling, nostalgia. It doesn’t really have any anthems but I’d still put it up against pretty much any other album bc it’s just that strong.

The nas project that made me a fan of his. The lyrics are so poignant, you can feel his love for black people on this. The way he's flowing so smooth yet commanding just grabs you . I can't imagine someone listening to the Lost Tapes and then say Nas can't pick beats. It's just that this type of production don't work for everyone because it's letting the space for the mc to shine. So if your lyrics garbage of course you will not choose that type of beats
Nas is really the king of nostalgia, when I listen to these songs I got reminiscence of a glorious past. For some reason I love listening that album when on a stormy/rainy day.
Even the cover is ill. Doo rags, u gotta love my way and nothing last forever are my favorites
To me this plus illmatic iww and Stillmatic alone makes him the goat

No idea's original, there's nothing new under the sun

It's never what you do, but how it's done

What you base your happiness around? Material women and large paper

That means you inferior, not major

Then he heard the We Major beat and he ain't know what to write. First line, should it be about the hos or the ice? Four four's or Black Christ? Both flows would be nice. Rap about big paper or the black man's plight?

Nasir brought it all back around (what goes around comes around, my nikka) Yeah, homie, he major.
