Man I actually think the beats on here are dope. Not trying to change your mind but I'm surprised so many of y'all are tripping on the production. I think Hit failed Nas as an executive producer on this if anything. Nas sounds great on here and was bringing the right energy but it doesn't feel like Hit was steering him in the right directions. All the other albums felt a lot more thought out and took you on a journey.

It’s the usual thing where people think it’s just production and think rappers picked beats out of a CD and that song will be that

The Boyz II Men sample on "Black Magic" :banderas:

:pachaha: him saying he put Pac on to Hennessyyyyyyyy....Let's see how much controversy and interviews from nobodies this sparks...

Exactly. I'm not even saying it's trash. To me it's a 3.5 mic album. Which normally was considered a respectable effort. But Nas stans always gotta pretend everything he drops is no lower than 4.5 mics. Smh.

A 4.5 mic album is War Report. It's Disposable arts. It's bulletproof wallets. Train of thought. Pimp a butterfly.

Now if you think this album or any Nas and Hitboy album is even remotely close to these I just can't respect anything you say regarding hip hop music. And I don't wanna hear shyt about times changing. The bar for greatness does not change period.

Just because there's technically nothing outright garbage on an album doesn't make it great. An album full of decent songs is still just a decent album. But that's precisely the problem with these Nas and Hitboy collabs. Hitboy is just not meeting nas's level. Nas is at a 9. Hit is at a 4. Hitboy's beats are background music status. He's actually holding nas back at this point.

It ain’t just Nas stans that are praising these albums him and Hit though. They been making all these year end lists and it’s other people saying how energized he sounds on these records that you think have held him back. These have been some of the hip hop albums last few years and it’s not crazy to say that. We ain’t saying it’s Illmatic or iww classic just best of today

I get this one was light but they just went on a pretty incredible run all things considered. And yes those other albums you mentioned are 4.5 and above …..they’re also over 20-25 years old other than that also took a minute to get into for some

didnt listen to the album yet but just heard the nas/50 track… lets just say it was extremely disappointing for such an anticipated collab like that

Not going to shyt on Hit for this. He's played a huge role in the Nas resurgence and this new run. He got noticeably and progressively better with each release and pushed his limits each time. This one might be a bit of a weird batch, but again, it's not wack just not what I personally wanted to hear.

That said, I also don't think it's "hate" to want to hear Nas with someone else now after like 5 albums with Hit. Not sure what's still left for their sound but if they keep going I wouldn't be mad either.

Black Magic really could have been elevated with a high energy feature. I’m not sure why they’ve been so averse to working with other artists.

I don’t see how they’re “averse”. KD1 has a PLETHORA of features. The most of ANY Nas album to date. KD2 has a bunch of features. Magic has ASAP Rocky. KD3 is literally the only album of this run with 0 features

After two listens this is great but probably the weakest of their albums after KD1.

I’m actually surprised so many Nas stans are critical here, i thought the booth was nothing but blind Nas followers lol.

KD3 was their peak, 5 albums together is more than enough. I’m super grateful for all of them but it’s time they move on before they become stale
