I still rank it at #6, but "Slow It Down" is a top five track from the Hit-Boy era. I always loved "Motion" ("My worst night a motion picture Fox searchlight") and "Office Hours" (even 50's verse). "One Mic, One Gun" sounds way better on this album than by itself when it came out.

This album suffered from being the sequel to Magic and having to follow the best album in the series (KD3). Expectations were really high and for the first time, it didn't seem like Nas and Hit-Boy were trying to top themselves. The Hit-Boy fatigue had also set in at this point and it just amplified the critics. Magic 3 was everything I wanted from this album, but by that time, nobody cared to acknowledge it for how good it was.

It does speak to the quality of the Hit-Boy albums that people were disappointed with Magic 2. Expectations started low when KD1 was announced, but they just kept raising the stakes with every album, so when it didn't happen this time, everyone was like :gucci:.

That's fair. Magic is my personal favorite of the run, but for some reason I didn't expect Magic 2 to sound anything like it so I was good with just a solid album. Plus the highs of Magic 2 are really high.

Exactly, the album coming out after magic and kd 3 , which to a lot of us who loved the series are borderline classics( kd3 for sure for me) hurt it.

And the hit boy fatigue as well, after kd 3 the press coverage for the rest of the albums was minimal, also magic 2 and magic 3 were released in quick succession. And the sound they went for in magic 2 was a bit surprising..a lot factors

And yea slow it down would easily fit into a top 10 tracks from all the albums.

Magic 2 has been one of my favorites of the Hit-Boy run since the day I heard it. I LOVE it when Nas gets in his experimental bag and him rapping over beats like Abracadabra and Black Magic were dope to me.
Mannnn abracadabra was heavy on my gym playlist. That black magic is a vibe too. Nas has such somewhat of a weird base in my opinion. Any type of songs that don’t have that traditional sound from Nas, a good majority of his base will ignore. I believe that’s the reason some of his more modern sounding bangers don’t go crazy like they should. Fans don’t support those records. If another artist dropped brunch on Sunday (especially in modern day) that song would have went to the moon.

I think songs like abacadabra is not his style. We don’t think it’s trash. Good experimental song and he floated and it’s good to experiment. That’s what makes him the goat to me. He ain’t scared to try new shyt and not go with the “trend”. But do you see tons of records like that from him? His fan base don’t look for that type of nas cuz it ain’t him. If it was him, he would do it more cuz he don’t care what we think. He know who he is and who he grown to be so yes he may experiment with those type of songs but he do what his style is. Which will always be a street poet that has matured and rapping the way he should be at his age. He wouldn’t have been considered the goat if his career would have been rapping like abacadabra and all those experimental songs. We don’t hate on it. We respect it regardless because of how he can change up and do things effortlessly. That’s what I say some people ain’t really day 1s. What they enjoy more of nas as their favorites are songs he don’t do often knowing it ain’t really him??? Why ya favorite songs be more of the shyt he don’t do often? Brunch on Sunday is a bad example cuz that song most day 1s find fire. It didnt hit just cuz he’s at that point in his career that the numbers are gonna be the numbers. He been doing it so long but nothing to do with his day 1s.

I was disappointed in that album no lie when it dropped. To me they couldn't top kd3 anyway so to me magic 2 (and 3 for that matter) were overkill and not ultra necessary. But revisiting it I like it way more now. It's a very classy and cinematic album. Motion is super dope. I love Abracadabra, Black magic and Pistols on the album cover. But magic 3 was needed to close the hit boy chapter with a stronger note
