Jay was not a new artist. We're going to stop that myth right now. That nikka was trying to get on since 88-89. RD was just his debut album. But he most definitely wasn't new.
That old ass shyt don’t count…Jay really started getting on like around ‘94 on some real shyt.

Yes it does. He been trying to get on since the originators.
That don’t count his real push as a solo artist came in ‘94, ‘95. Y’all nikkas know this too lol.

He was a hypeman and had some features but he didn’t take rap serious he was a hustler. His first lead single came out in ‘95.

You've been in this 10, I've been in it five

:mjlol:

he really wanted us to pretend tho

He tried to count Nas debut feature in 91 against his album debut in 96. We was like stop it .

When you're first heard on a record, whether it's your's or someone else's is your debut. That's your official entry into the game.

Jay-Z as we know him came out with the In My Lifetime single that was his solo debut single and when he was really going all in on becoming a rapper

Naw.

Jaz-o was on rap city and yo MTV raps.

It's just that those videos were EARLY 90 and worlds apart from the period when Jay got his career going. It took me a while to realize he was the same guy from the cardboard beach video.

Same thing with RZA/Prince rakeem and those years weren't as far apart as jay'z.

you really tryna justify his takeover lyrics?
That was not the frame of the convo

Somebody said Jay was a lil nikka and Nas and Pac was selling millions

@Wacky D said Jay wasn’t a lil nikka he was just a new artist and was a boss not a worker which is facts and he said y’all looking at the sales in retrospect Nas had not sold a million copies by summer of ‘96

That’s what I’m agreeing with

:mjtf: so you taking your statement back?

Jay’s debut single came out ‘95 that’s when he was going all in with music that’s what I count as when he came out as Jäy-Z and started the path to what we know him as today
