I couldn't imagine being 46 and people only wanted to talk about something I did when I was 21.
I think this is how all artist are, and when I say artist im talking everything from music, art, literature, etc. when you have a body of work and people only know you for one project(book/album/piece of art, etc). It will bother you that the public does not spread the love to the rest of your work.

Infsct that one popular work of yours will be more popular than you are as the artist.

Some of the comments here are exactly what Nas is getting at.

Illmatic will forever be one of the greatest albums ever made, but you're talking about the debut album of a man that has had a career spanning almost thirty years. He has other classic albums that don't get the same attention. People need to stop acting like that's the only good thing he ever did, or the only time his music was ever interesting or creative or meaningful.

Two questions; were you into hip hop in 94 and where did you live?

Listen to 36 Chambers then listen to the Wu albums that came after Illmatic.
I’m from Detroit. Wu tang was everywhere in the city in 93. Illmatic didn’t have that impact

put it like this.

Illmatic = Deep Impact

Ready to die=Armageddon

if u kno u kno
