but Nas did take an L for singnin to jay tho. In the long run, Nas won the battle, jay won the war

I don't think so, and really did he even really sign TO jay? Jay didn't own Def Jam. It was more a situation like they peaced up to allow the move for Nas to come to Def Jam without any in house conflict.

Jay was the president but that just means he had an executive position within the label. He was an employee, didn't have ownership. Nas still on Def Jam and Jay not the president anymore, so wasn't really signed to Jay. They both never saw it as Nas signing to Jay they said too. Jay said "you can't sign an artist of the stature of Nas, can only partner with him".

Jay Z was Def Jam president, it was HIM that signed Nas, cutting his checks. Either way you look at it, Jay won the war.

How does having an executive position make you an employee :heh:

Cutting his cheques? Was he paying him?

I don't think this is right at all. They made a business decision, a good one I feel.

A good business decision would be Nas starting a label and forming a partnership with Def Jam, not getting signed by your one time rival. And look at Nas in the long run, he went broke, that deal probably fukked him in the ass

Nas broke? What do you mean? He's a multi millionaire. Ideally yes Nas could have stated his own company business wise, but that's not for everyone, maybe he wanted to focus on being an artist. It's difficult to juggle both, both time consuming hard jobs. But I meant more artistically, I think the deal worked out well for Nas. An the fact him and Jay are cool I think is good too.
