He still gets his props now (Number 4 on MTV Hottest MCs list for example). As much as it seems like he gets ignored and such, he's also still managed to preserve his legacy. Like he gets mentioned in the conversation of the greats.

But yeah, the praise of the Illmatic and Stillmatic era sometimes feels like he wont get it till he passes, but I would argue his legacy has been preserved.

There's never gonna be one goat. Just a few guys lumped at the top of everyone's list and then stans can seperate them from there. NaS,Pac,Big,camel,Rakim,Eminem seem to be the consensus among fans as to who the goats are. Then you just choose from them. Even then krs,grap,cube,even nikkas like snoop,Wayne,kanye and others will be goats to some.
But I love NaS' standing right now. His albums are always critically acclaimed and he receives plenty of praise from his peers. His albums will always move a decent number of units for a non mainstream artist. You can't ask for much more Life is good
