I think he was somewhat able to do that already, starting with Stillmatic. God's Son was decent too...and then there wash the Lost Tapes :ahh:...then there was Street's Disciple :scusthov: then there was Hip Hop is Dead :ehh:

I wouldn't really say that everything after IWW was whack. I would more say that Nas fluctuated in terms of overall quality of his albums. I do agree however, that Nas hasn't ever been in the same form he was on IWW, and LIG is the closest he has ever been in a long time.

Oh I def agree not everything after IWW is trash. Stillmatic is great, God's Son is solid; obviously Lost Tapes is great. But I think Nas is still getting shytted on for I Am and Nastradamus. If the OG I Am was released it would probably be considered nearly classic today, but the retail version has some ugly mainstream shyt. And Nastradamus...no comment.

Nas can go on a nice run now though. There will always be people who always say "it's ok but it's not Illmatic" but fukk em. Nas just needs to get another dope exec producer like No ID, who will help pick beats and shyt. I still think Nas made a mistake with Summer on Smash but overall the album had good production; still, he can get better beats.

He seriously lacks the back catalogue and made too many mistakes. Nas had the most potential out of everyone but he blew it.

I love Nas and no doubt when he's on he's ON but he's lucky to be top 5 imo.

pretty much. shyt lil waynes death would be more likely to catapult him.

Only deep in forums do people still give a shyt about anything Nas puts out.

nah....if it won't be pac, it'll be jay

He's just more noticable and he's just as great of a rapper (for different reasons obvious)

They are really yin/yang...1a 1b, The ali/ray robinson comparison is kinda sorta legit.

Who's your top 5

1. 2Pac
2. Jay-Z
3. Notorious BIG
4. Scarface
5. Nas or Ice Cube

I go back and forth but the top 3 are a lock. I know people will say Big doesn't have enough albums but he's never released garbage and gave us two certified classics (RTD is arguably the best Hip hop album) plus :ohlawd: guest appearances and very good songs outside his two studio records.

By "lucky" I mean it's not a lock by any stretch of the imagination. Rakim and Cube could easily take his place. He's in my top 7 no doubt if it's any consolation to you :heh:.

LoL... Nas is already getting props while he is still alive. Every MC mentions this dude in interviews or as a source of inspiration. In fact Nas is one of the select few MCs acknowledged by the old and new school. Obviously when an MC of Nas stature dies, he will get more luv but for now... He's good

And to add to that, when you have CNN making articles that get buzzed about like calling him the greatest lyricist ever, they are people in the media who are ensuring his legacy is not forgotten.

End of the day, you look at greats like Melle Melle or Redman or Pun, LL, Cube Scarface even and its seems like they get cruely forgotten in the best ever discussion...at least there's still talk of Nas in the best of category and what can be better than that?
