I think he was somewhat able to do that already, starting with Stillmatic. God's Son was decent too...and then there wash the Lost Tapes ...then there was Street's Disciple then there was Hip Hop is Dead

I wouldn't really say that everything after IWW was whack. I would more say that Nas fluctuated in terms of overall quality of his albums. I do agree however, that Nas hasn't ever been in the same form he was on IWW, and LIG is the closest he has ever been in a long time.
