I really don't know why you Nas fanboys are so bytchmade. I stated an opinion and we can debate it since you disagree but there's no need to come at me with limp wrists sucking your teeth and rolling your neck. I'm not hating on Nas, I'm simply stating a fact of the matter. Dumbing down doesn't just consist of simplifying lyrics or being lyrically "wack". Dumbing down is also about subject matter and the kinds of songs that one makes. Nas went from "Nasty" the young intelligent street poet, to "Escobar" the fake flossy drug dealing kingpin and he did it in an attempt to crossover. Lyrically Nas was ill on all of the songs on the album, that doesn't stop some of those tracks from being dumbed down though. That whole escobar alter-ego was about nast Nas dumbing down to crossover.

Even if you just want to talk lyrically, there's plenty of examples of Nas dumbing down. See dumbing down doesn't automatically mean wack, it just means making your style more accessible to a larger audience. It's all about balance. You can be too technical and complex the same way that you can be too simple or dumbed down. Made you look is one of my favorite Nas records, but it's obviously dumbed down. That nastradamus song is a clearly dumbed down record. Ooochie Wally, Dr. Knockboots, Firm Biz, and I could keep going but the point has been made. Nas has clearly dumbed down throughout his career.
No...nowhere in his rhymes in IWW can u say he dumbed down...the MUSIC may have been a lil more accessible than Illmatic...but his LYRICS wasnt dumbed down...nikka actually EXPANDED on what he already had yet nikkas in here callin it dumbing down...no..he expanded his subject matter..got more intricate with his storytelling....used one of the best displays of personification on a track till this date...overall more polished...he was LESS raw and a LESS poetic...he was DIFFERENT..NOT dumbed down...theres a difference g...

So if Backstreet Boys asked NaS to be on a track and he did it that's not dumbing it down? He can always say no you know. Nobody forced NaS to do a song with 3LW. Plenty of rapper's turn down collaborations. That was his choice there for he dumb it down to work with them. Also people have already given examples on NaS albums where he basically dumb it down on certain songs to sound more commercial.

I think people are getting to caught up with the words "Dumb it down". That's just basically saying your mailing it in lyrically so the masses can understand it better. NaS isn't going to be spitting hard body on a 3LW track, that's obvious. Jay was the one who said he did it for dollars and admitted it. But NaS has had his share of spitting average to weak verses when he's on a commercial track.

Look..I gave u examples of him dumbing it down a lil bit...those songs arent his that u named...period...if he spit a crazy verse on a Backstreet Boys track then thats NOT dumbing it down...cause he's still HIM..he didnt lose who HE was in the track...and he still came on point LYRICALLY...I never said he never did..I just said ur giving bad examples...what if he likes 3LW?..u think he gonna turn down workin wit them just so a bunch of nikka wont think he "dumbing it down"?..u nikkas is confusing "selling out" with "dumb it down"...

You're an irrational Nas fanboy and you didn't even address my post. We are never going to agree, so don't waste your time quoting me anymore.

@spliz is one of the better members on
this board, whenever it comes to discussing Jigga or Nas
he tends not to jump to extremes like other cats.

He never dumbed down his music in a widespread way. He may have made the occasional commercial track, but all of his albums are lyrically focused. You're just making sht up.

Actually Nas himself said he toned it down after IWW, because people just weren't getting it all...but think about that, think about how much classic material he was still able to create lol, dude is the GOAT

He could of liked 3LW or it could of been for a check but regardless he did it. Also Dumbing it down is basically selling out. They are both pretty much the same thing. You are changing your lyrical style to appeal to the masses. The Backstreet boys analogy was simply to say just being on a track with them is dumbing it down to the streets cause it is.

Your telling me NaS would of done a Backstreet Boys Callabo and he wouldn't of gotten called out? There are 2 different debates going on. Some are saying NaS has dumb down his albums. I never said that, though he does have some "Sellout/Dumb Down" tracks on his albums. My point is that NaS has lowered his lyrical skills on commercial tracks to appeal to the mainstream. Wither it worked or not is a different debate but the fact is he did it. Yes he's done it far less than Jay has but he's done it.
