He's 5' 8" ....he would've been a fringe NFL player at best

China finals going on now

Was Wes Welker a fringe NFL player? Darrell Green? Is Tyran Matthieu?

Hell, there's a 5'8-5'9 corner in San Diego making 9mil a year right now.

People exaggerate this height deficiency thing in football.

Three-time slam dunk champion Nate Robinson is making a career change.

Players who have transitioned from college basketball to the NFL are nothing new. Antonio Gates did it, and so did Jimmy Graham — both with a great deal of success.
Making the jump from the NBA to the NFL, however is a different story. In fact, it's apparently never been done. Three-time slam dunk champion Nate Robinson is trying to become the first.
...
Not that Robinson is new to the game — he originally enrolled at the University of Washington to play football. In 2002, Robinson played 13 games, starting the final six at cornerback in his first year with the Huskies, picking off two passes and made 34 tackles that season.
That was more than a decade ago, however. Returning to a sport that you haven't played in that long of a period of time is nearly impossible, never mind at the highest level possible.

"I haven't played in 11 years, 12 years." Robinson said. "But I know how to play. I know how to hit. I know how to catch -- I can get picks, I can get deflections. I know all techniques -- bump, seven yards off, five yards off. I know it all."

Still, a jump from the NBA to the NFL is crazy, especially at the age of 31. Furthermore, Robinson is only 5-foot-9, 180 pounds — not exactly NFL-type measurements.

Nate Robinson trying to become first NBA player to play in NFL

For real, I don't have an issue that he's 5'9". He's been playing NBA basketball so his hand-eye coordination and athletic skills have been retained. I don't see him not being able to run the plays at NFL level speeds. I have an issue that he's 180 lbs. Don't want to promote steroid use, but he needs to call up Biogenesis... like yesterday.

180 is 5lbs off the avg though, and the fact that its his NBA playing weight means that he would bulk up at least 10lbs easily since his workouts would shift to short area explosive training as opposed to cardio conditioning like most nba players...

Pretty much

Which is why I think he could do ok. I'm almost certain he can match those numbers now.

Like I said, if his numbers are there. I'm sure he could get 225 up at least 10 times as well. Tyrann couldn't barely do 5 and is one of the best when healthy

It's HELLA good DB's under 6 foot.

His height went against him making the NBA more than it does making the NFL.

Tyrin Matheiu is looked at as one of the best young safety's and he's only 5'9.

Nate would be arguably the best athlete on the field almost every night if he was in the NFL in his prime.

baby, that was the old me
Maybe if he would have did this at 25 Nate would have a chance but the time has passed for him to try something like this. He's over 30 and hasn't played in well over 10 years. Not a good look at all.

One way to look at it.... Why would he try at 25 when he was regularly droppin 20 a nite and occasionally droppin 35 or 40

I really don't watch basketball so I have no idea who he is, but good luck to him! I will never knock anyone's dream! :salute:
