He played football at the University of Washington. Probably won't make a team now, but back in the day he possible could have made a name for himself as a DB.

Nah. You don't take 10 years off from football and make an NFL roster. Don't care how great an athlete you are. Dude for the 9ers was one of the best rugby players ever or something and a fantastic athlete and barely made the squad while in his 20's. Nate is past his physical prime and was a CB, the most athletically demanding position on the field

Going from a non-contact sport to a contact sport isn't good for the joints. Whether he's in it for the money, the fame, the glory, or just a lofty personal goal, he's going to get hurt.

Basketball IS a contact sport. Football is a collision sport (sorry pet peeve)

But anyway I agree it doesn't seem like a very smart idea.
