Some Caribbeans and Africans are ignorant of FBA culture because that’s the way American media has packaged it for international consumption.

FBAs are seen as lazy, and lacking ambition but what’s not seen abroad is how every time some upward momentum is made, it gets sabotaged. People can only take so much.

And vice versa. Africans are portrayed as backwards, primitive and poor. Every time a leader tries to throw off the chain of imperialism he somehow gets overthrown or assassinated.

There's concerted effort to keep Black people worldwide from being on the same page.

As a black American I don't agree with everything my other FBAs say about non black Americans but all these Juneteenth parties with Caribbean and African themes and foods don't sit right with me i'm from the Chicagoland area so I didn't grow up around too many Africans or people from the Caribbean but have they always been this disrespectful towards black American culture? I'm from Texas....so we been celebrating Juneteenth since 1865.

My parents always said that June 19th was a bigger deal than July 4th. Ice cream, BBQ...like a family reunion cookout, Thanksgiving and 4th of July rolled into one.

When did everyone else start celebrating?

I'm sure some brehs on the West Coast with Ark-La-Tex roots were keyed in, but it still surprises me when errbody got on the wave.

Yeah that’s how we celebrated in Texas as well. Always a cookout combined with a bbq and thanksgiving food that we normally ate. I do know some midwestern towns celebrated it like Milwaukee.
