Answer #2.

Many young people DO get extremely sick from coronavirus, even if they typically survive.

"James Cai, a 32-year-old non-smoker with no other health conditions, has been at Hackensack University Medical Center for about a week and says his illness has worsened significantly over that time. "In the beginning, they just treat me like normal flu. They say I'm young, I'm not going to die, but they don't know the truth about corona[virus]," Cai said during an interview posted to Twitter over the weekend."

And it got worse after that:

"Cai didn't respond to MedPage Today's request for an interview, but he told CBS New York that his illness progressed rapidly. He's now having trouble breathing and will likely need to be placed on a ventilator soon. He's one of 15 cases in New Jersey as of press time. "

Young, healthy, 32yo physicians assistant and he had lost 50% of lung function. :francis:

We shouldn’t fly on airplanes because a few crashed before. We shouldn’t drive cars because people died in car accidents before. Shouldn’t have sex at all even in marriage because someone somewhere caught AIDS and died from it.

What does asymptimatic have to.do with anything I said?

Lol. Panicing for the sake of panicing. Smh.

The only threat is the elderly and those who are immuno comprosmised. So arond them take precautions, and you will limit their exposure, whether you have symptoms manifesting or you dont.
You can pass that shyt on while outside and bring it to an old person

You're not a Doctor

Why do you think you're smarter than ppl trained in this?

no clue why trump and con are so non chalant about it “if you’re young, you’re fine”. That shot is making young people not take this thing seriously. It is reckless and the media again not doing their job. Misinformation and flat out lies are getting people killed.

It's not about you dumbfukk. Have you seen the shyt about potential triage in Italian hospitals because the health care system is overwhelmed? If 10 million dumbasses like yourself want to "take that chance", and just 5% of you get seriously ill, that's 500,000 bodies the health care system has to take care of and could mean that many more older people die cause your selfish idiot ass was using resources.

About half of France's coronavirus patients in intensive care are under 65, health official says

A French health official says warnings to stay home in the coronavirus pandemic are in some cases falling on deaf ears while noting that the virus hasn't just been posing a risk to seniors.

French health ministry official Jérôme Salomon said Monday that the situation is "deteriorating very quickly" while providing this statistic: of the between 300 and 400 coronavirus patients in intensive care in France, about half of them are younger than 65, The New York Times reports.

Salomon is looking to "dispel the notion that the virus seriously threatens only the elderly," the Times reports, and Mother Jones observes that even though the novel coronavirus is "understood to be particularly lethal among the elderly," these numbers "underscore the reality that younger generations can still face serious consequences."

Salomon also said Monday that in France, "a lot of people have not understood that they need to stay at home," and as a result, "we are not succeeding in curbing the outbreak of the epidemic," per Reuters. Most nonessential businesses in France were ordered to be closed over the weekend.

France has confirmed more than 5,400 cases of the novel coronavirus, and by Sunday, the number of deaths had risen to 127. Salomon said Monday the number of cases has been doubling "every three days."

Same shyt in China - the MAJORITY of serious cases were young/middle-aged adults. Even if they pulled through, it still is shyt to go through and it taxes the health care system.

Ask him where he gets his information. Right now, dare him to post the #1 most reliable source of his information on Coronavirus. In the past he's proven he gets his info from far-right shyt sources and the dumbest internet pundits. He tried to argue in one thread why fast food is actually healthy for you and claimed that it doesn't matter how much oil/trans fats/sugar/soft drinks/etc. you eat just so long as you count calories. :mjlol:

He also made another thread trying to claim that "Obamacare is literally killing people" because a far-right commentator saw white people's life expectancies drop BEFORE OBAMACARE EVEN STARTED, as if that wasn't from obesity, depression, and the opioid epidemic, not fukking Obamacare. :mjlol:

China is already sending people.back to work and simply send i ng them home if they cough or show sickness. You know that right?

They are battling to restart the factories as the worlds largest manufacturer while instilling confidence in consumers, because now people dont trust their goods produced in China by people with corona all over their hands. This virus will alter the business landscape. They also have to save face, and make like they have managed when they havent.

Trump is a gambler. The only thing he cares about is his own success and reputation, and he knows that if there's an economic slowdown his chance at keeping the presidency is shot. He knows way too many people dislike him for anything other than economic success to save his reelection chances.

Also, he's already immortalized for having played down the virus from the beginning and fukked up our response for months. So the only way he can salvage that is if things just go away by themselves. Even if he has a great response now, it only shows how stupid he was with that "hoax" shyt earlier.

So rather than give the best possible advice on responses, he'd rather bet on it just going away by itself as the weather warms up. And it's certainly possible that cases will diminish as the weather warms, that's what happens with flu and there's some evidence coronavirus does better in colder countries. But it's a horrible bet to make with thousands of American lives at stake and we don't know how many people we'd lose before that warm weather came.

He doesn't care how slim the chances are though. If he thinks there's a chance to save the economy, even if it's just 10-20%, he'd rather aim for that than do the reasonable, safe thing, because the reasonable safe thing might cost him his presidency even if it saves lives.

and his enablers should deal with the fallout and face the consequences of fukking everyone over.

Yup, and Magic Johnson looks great today too, so why don't we all just go raw in a House in Virginia?

I think that most people who catch the disease will end up fine. And that's true of most disease - dengue fever, tuberculosis, typhoid fever - I know people who have had all of those diseases with only minimal discomfort, and the large majority of people who catch all those diseases end up fine. That doesn't mean we want outbreaks, because even when only 5% of people have serious cases, every ten million new people who get it is another 500,000 serious cases. And those diseases are famous because the serious cases really fukking suck, just like with coronavirus.

This was my first real post on the subject on a thread I made Wednesday night, still true today:

https://www.thecoli.com/threads/some-simple-coronavirus-facts.766087/

Wanted to clear the air cause there's lots of sensationalism going around in both directions. Here are the basics.

* YES, coronavirus hits most folk as nothing more than the flu and you'll get over it

* YES, coronavirus is far deadlier than the flu

* Hospitals getting overrun is the biggest fear

Those first two statements can both be true because the flu ain't very dangerous at all. Somewhere around 1 in 700 people who catch the flu die, and the vast majority are the elderly. The death rate is more like 1 in 5000 for folk aged 18-49 but again many of those had other issues going on. Every once in a while the flu takes some young healthy person and it's a complete shock, but 99,999 times out of 100,000 anyone 10-60 in good health who catches the flu will be fine.

We're still trying to understand coronavirus, but early results suggest that it may be 10x deadlier than the flu. That still means the vast majority of young healthy people will be fine. But the "rare cases" where a young healthy person dies or has serious complications are far more common than they are with the flu, and the danger to people in worse health is much more serious.

So the flu hits maybe 25 million folk a year, and of those maybe 35,000 die. What would happen if we did absolutely nothing in response to coronavirus, just let it spread, and it hit 25 million folk as well. That could mean we're talking possibly 300,000 deaths? Sure, 99% of folk would be fine, but that's a LOT of dead people.

Just as big an issue is that coronavirus affects your lungs in a way that flu doesn't, and compromises your ability to breathe. That means a lot of people are getting put on respirators, even if they're gonna recover. And you look at China, you look at Italy, you look at Iran, it's overwhelming their health care systems. China had to build entire new hospitals to treat coronavirus patients, Italy has patients spilling out into the hallways because the rooms are all full, Iran has people dying on the streets. There's only so many hospital beds, there's only so many respirators, when you have an epidemic wiping through and putting thousands of folk into intensive care on TOP of all the normal day-to-day shyt, things get overloaded fast.

I've heard that in parts of Italy the ambulance response times are over an hour. Think about how that affects not just coronavirus victims, but all the other shyt people get sick/hurt and die from. Everyone is put in danger.

That's why everything is getting shut down. They're trying to slow the spread of the disease to the point that the health care systems can continue to manage the victims. What they're afraid of is exponential spread that overwhelms the systems and causes a ton of folk to die that would otherwise make it.

Here's a comparison. Everyone knows Dengue Fever is a nasty disease, right? No one wants to catch Dengue Fever. You definitely avoid that shyt. No one would ever say it's "no big deal".

Well, 70% of dengue fever cases have only minor or no symptoms. Another 25% or so are kinda nasty but don't require hospitalization. Only 4% of dengue fever cases are considered "serious". Of those serious cases, there's a 30% death rate if you don't go to the hospital and a 10% death rate if you are hospitalized.

In other words, the natural death rate of Dengue Fever is only 1.2% even with no treatment, and it's only 0.4% with treatment. Yet Dengue Fever is still a huge burden on the hospital systems of many countries, and a major source of suffering and death. And it doesn't spread epidemically nearly as nasty as coronavirus could be capable of.
