Yeah that's right. :snoop: What was up with that? Someone at The Source must've had some personal beef with Smif N Wessun or something. I don't know how anyone could have listened to that album and gave it a 3 with a straight face.

I believe that was the issue. The clown didn't even listen to the full album

Breh you can keep all the text, you wrong.

And to be brutally honest, De La Soul first album wasn't even all that compared to what came after :dame:
Yes it was. How old are you? Do you remember it when it came out? Of course 80's albums are not going to sonically age as well, but 3 Feet High And Rising is an indisputable classic. They broke every boundary of conventional hip-hop. They ushered in a new sound that was like some hip-hop new wave shyt, with all the obscure classic rock sample melodies and skits. They rejected all the braggadocio and imagery of what hip-hop had been up to that point. There's a reason why that album is in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.

You said it's not "all that." Don't know if you consider it a classic, but there's no way you can say with a straight face that Liquid Swords or Ironman was a more landmark album in the annals of hip-hop than it. You'd just be wrong.

This is why I'm keeping it to impact and influence because dudes are talking about albums aren't classic because they personally don't like it. That's not how life works. I don't like Pac at all but I'd be stupid to say he doesn't have classic albums.

nikkas get albums they liked confused with certified classics.
nikkas get mad when i say you cant match up
the infamous and illmatic
withe RTD and the chronic.
I think the infamous is flames, illmatic, not so much
But neither like RTD and the chronic.
Cant compare 2 albums that ran the east coast streets to two albums that has street appeal and crossed over.
Especially when you fags only do that for east coast albums

I have never seen a post from you that isn't horrible.

I'll say this, I can admit 3 Feet is a very important album in hiphop for everything you just said and is the very reason the followup "Is Dead" is what it was.

But if you asked me to play that bytch right now? I'd rather put on Is Dead or Stakes instead :ld:

I recall them stating something to the effect of it not being enough of a progression in sound from Enta Da Stage. I think the write up was mostly complimentary but they were kinda trying to use the album as a sacrificial lamb to put people on notice to not play it safe. Someone should dig up the review.

And then they had the gall to give that awful Westside Connection album 4.5 around the same time.

Native tongue afiliates correct?

Chi Ali was billed as an official member. The others were friends. I think maybe Monie might have gotten official billing briefly too but her album was trash so no one cared.

I don't know about LONS, although they were tight with ATCQ obviously but they had a ton of affiliates. Brand Nubian, Beatnuts, and others too. De La, Jungle Bros., ATCQ, and Black Sheep were the core recognizable members who really repped it.

Looking back it's fukking crazy that Low End Theory, De La Soul Is Dead, and A Wolf in Sheeps' Clothing all dropped within a couple of months of each other. We were witnessing some greatness.
