Native Tongues have more classics than Wu-Tang, Deathrow or any other crew

The JB's first 2 are classics.

So are ODB, SC, Ironman & LS.

The first JB's album is as classic as it gets in fact. Impact, played everywhere, hits etc. Influence...didn't bravehearts remake 'the promo'?

A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing is an absolute classic too.

low key Tical is a classic as well. That's a different discussion though.

how is it one? no singer on the hook, no obvious rnb sampled beat.

The chorus is catchy for folks to sing along to.
That's all you need for a radio single.

Every single has to have a hook to reel in the listener, and the chorus is that most of the time. This is no different.

rza screaming off key about the seed and the black woman isn't radio friendly at all, then add the raw wu tang style beat. compare that to "hypnotize" or "cali love". it was a good try though.

So is every song with a hook a radio jingle?
Shook Ones Pt 2 for example?

Irrelevant.

The "IT'S YOURZ" part is the sing along, radio friendly part.

Any person who makes money writing songs will tell you that. It doesn't have to be all over the top or poppy to be "radio friendly" -
it just has to be potent enough to stay inside the listeners' memory.

Yep.

Saying that, I will distinguish that the definition of a "hook" in songwriting isn't the same way most use it in hip-hop.
A "hook" is not limited to a "chorus", but most of the time a "chorus" is a "hook".

Having a catchy hook =/= radio friendly.

I'd love to know what makes "Forever" a classic, I don't think there's an album I've TRIED to like more (including just now due to this this thread)
Word to kid that mentioned the intro which features one of my main problems with the LP, those weak ass drums that are all over the album.
You got tracks like Severe punishment and Deadly Melody which try to revisit that classic 36 sound but lack all the grime and grit, True masters Heaterz is probably the grimiest beat on the whole shyt.

There's definitely some standouts (Bells of war, triumph, reunited, it's yours, a better tomorrow) and not too much flat out wack shyt but a gang of mediocrity imo but still the as far as lyrics / performance the clan def came correct .

I remember many were disappointed with this lp then RZA said something about cats not getting it till 10 years later and plenty of ran with that narrative, It's still ok at best to me.
