Why?
I'm speaking from a federal employee's perspective.
I have seen people who have been officers walk right into GS-12 - GS-15 jobs after they get out (sometimes even SES) while some prior enlisted personnel struggle to find employment.
My cousin just walked right into a gs-12 position here on Fort Hood and he retired as a SSG just a few months ago.
we have to separate the people who retire from those who do an initial term and those who to a mid-career.
Nothing wrong with enlisting in either of the branches of service. They all have pros and cons.
Generally officers when they retire at O6 and above get those SES jobs. but the amount that makes o6 is small.

I've seen everyone from SPC -Warrants and officers walk right into gigs albeit some did the contract thing, some did the gs, some did the local thing..
