Why?

I'm speaking from a federal employee's perspective.

I have seen people who have been officers walk right into GS-12 - GS-15 jobs after they get out (sometimes even SES) while some prior enlisted personnel struggle to find employment.

My cousin just walked right into a gs-12 position here on Fort Hood and he retired as a SSG just a few months ago.

we have to separate the people who retire from those who do an initial term and those who to a mid-career.

Nothing wrong with enlisting in either of the branches of service. They all have pros and cons.

Generally officers when they retire at O6 and above get those SES jobs. but the amount that makes o6 is small.

Interesting. I have a buddy that's a retired MSG..he's still looking for a GS jobs.

I have been in and around federal government since I was 19...I'm just saying I've heard more stories of prior enlisted guys having trouble finding jobs and prior officers (of any sort) walking right into GS jobs.

New GI bill you don't pay the $1200, that was the Montgomery GI. She will get the post 911 GI bill.

The normal enlistment is 4 years active. 4 years inactive reserve but can be longer if she chooses certain rates.

I can't tell you much bout the regular Navy but if she goes nuke I can answer anything
you're a nuke? sub or carrier? yall make bank but yall some nerds and weirdos :mjlol:

I think some of it comes down to what they did while in and if they prepared themselves for retirement...my last CSM retired and works at the golds gym front desk..:yeshrug: I've seen everyone from SPC -Warrants and officers walk right into gigs albeit some did the contract thing, some did the gs, some did the local thing..

It's just too many variables involved.

I'm speaking of from a location and opportunity standpoint. I've known a lot more coast guard cats roll from a military spot to GS spot due to them being able to jump into a Dept of the Navy or DHS job since they fall under both of them. DHS jobs ain't getting cut regardless of how much folks want to have a smaller government or fighting force. I'd rather be CG and be stuck somewhere like San Diego or Boston where there's ample opportunity than Air Force or Army stick in North Dakota or butt fukk Ft Riley or some shyt tbh.

That MSG sounds like someone who didn't network or got a degree/certifications while he was in. Fortunately for me, I worked for Petraeus when I was at Leavenworth and several other high ranking officials who linked me in to get my previous and current gig. It's all a matter of who you work for, building rapport and keeping in contact for that day you may need to use them to get a position.

From what I heard, i was referring more to Correction officers

This makes sense. One of my friends was sexually abused by a female CO. If he didn't do what she ordered so far as acts within the purview of the prison were concerned, she would threaten him with repercussion.

My niece is insistent on joining the Navy (she'll be a senior in high school next year).

Who here is Navy? Any advice? She wants to enlist...I'm telling her officer is the way to go. I work for the DoD, have for years, I know the benefits of being an officer vs enlisted.

There is always Officer Candidate School, but I think ROTC in college would be the best best. Does the Navy reimburse college tuition for officers who were in ROTC?
tell her to start taking birth control now
