Expeditionary Navy here... Got out and got a contractor gig on base. It pays good and I only work 4 days a week. I'm gonna stick with this until I finish school, my former XO is urging me to try to get a Civil service / GS gig but sadly I don't think I have the education or experience required for a decent paying position. I'm going to get there though... Just have to work for it.

That's true but also depends on what they retire as. And they are cutting officers big time.

But when you start putting more stripes on it changes your mindset...I got homies who unless they are a 1SG or OPS SGM may show up to work once a week.

The day my sequence number hits I'm going on the same schedule and I haven't interviewed for any positions.

Breh...I'm being serious when I say this...education and work has little to do with it.

It's all about who you know. Unfortunately for me...I don't know enough of the right people. I've had a long road. I'm only a GS-11 but I started as a GS-2 (mail room clerk). I should be a lot higher than what I am. A lot of these guys hire their buddies they were in the service with. I'm a true-blue civilian so I don't have that advantage. People in general hire their buddies. shyt, I remember when I got my GS-6 job...it was only because the branch chief was my mom's friend.

New GI bill you don't pay the $1200, that was the Montgomery GI. She will get the post 911 GI bill.

The normal enlistment is 4 years active. 4 years inactive reserve but can be longer if she chooses certain rates.

I can't tell you much bout the regular Navy but if she goes nuke I can answer anything

Tell her to go to the Air Force. Better food. Better jobs. And she will most likely be in a air conditioned office some where not running around in fire fighter gear wearing OBA face masks while constantly doing fire drills
