Bird rights are for players who have been with their team 3 years or morw....of they get traded their new team keeps the bird rights. Bird rights allow u to keep your guys when theyrs already over the cap
Guys like ray allen, jr smith, oj mayo, aaron brooks, jj hickson, etc dont have bird rights cuz they signed one year deals. If youre over the cap eith a player like that u can only offer your midlevel exception
