If you look at players in top 10 convos only two...Bird and Bron...came from the trenches. Not sure where this trench talk with the NBA came from. There is a reason AI stood out like he did. He aint do nothing but be a hood nikka and became a superstar antihero as a result.

I’d argue media training and brand consciousness at a young age has more to do with players not coming across as “authentic” as previous eras than not coming from the trenches

Dude's are stars at 12. People are getting their hooks in as early as possible. You also gotta consider...nobody is authentic anymore . Everybody gets the chance to act like they are a celebrity. There is no such thing as privacy or personal life anymore.

I am not sure the barriers of entry are harsher. If you show potential, everybody is gonna know you. Big difference now is that it's not all about your neighborhood HS anymore. It's about your AAU squad and/or the private school that you transfer to.

What about Rodman, Barkley, Zeke, Ben Wallace, KD, Butler, Melo, Wade, Mark Aguire, Pippen and probably 200 plus other players since the 80s. We're talking about cats that had an opportunity just to make the league and actually made it. Just naming all time greats is a bullshyt argument.
