A lot of yall dont like the game of Basketball and it shows. If you need all that TMZ side stuff to get interested, you don't really like the game.
If we go by the numbers a lot of people don't like basketball anymore. Not this Finals specifically, the season in total. So what happened, why'd fans leave and not come back?

The league itself prioritized TMZ side stuff as you call it over the actual product. They conditioned their own fans to pay more attention to who's asking out this season, what super team is forming in the offseason. Right now they're already talking about where Durant's going when supposedly this is a great Finals. If fans don't like the game anymore it's not on fans, it's on the league in charge of the games not putting the game first.

Now the new CBA makes it hard for players to team up and still get their money but after fans have been conditioned since 2010 to seeing superteams, now you're now trying to sell bench players & depth same way you sold KD/Steph/Klay, Bron/Kyrie/Love, Bron/Wade/Bosh etc yeah...you're getting tuned out. Now you have to re-program fans to accept less stars on teams, while same time there's pretty much no stars period. Wemby, Ant, Tatum, Luka have numbers but sorry they're not stars. There's no Kobe, Steph, LeBron to make people watch this shyt. They've got big problems that I'm not sure how long would take to fix, if some can be fixed.

Honestly I dunno.

I do believe that load management, player movement, rules fukkery, overpaying players that have not earned or proven anything has created a Perspective where casual fans feel like don’t feel like players care.

the sense of Competitiveness just doesn’t translate in todays game. i do think this has something to do with the way the game is played and the makeup of the players.

If it’s a perspective issue that casuals have, then there’s nothing the NBA can do. Truth is talking about the NBA’s ratings is a great way to get engagement online and then folks can further stroke :dame:their ego with their harebrained ideas.

NBA needs to just make something for their core viewers, have analysts who can break the game down insightfully, and add a bit more bells and whistles to the presentation of national games, and go from there.

"I clean forgot about the game until the final score notification from ESPN."

My point is that you can say anything on here. In real life you could've watched the entire game from start to finish, but then hop on here and say you forgot about the game until the ESPN notification. The ratings numbers speak for themselves. The added hyperbole kills your stance and sounds forced.

What part of it not even being a real buzz anywhere (internet or real life) about this series don’t you get? Especially if you’re not a fan of any of the teams/players.

It doesn’t feel important from any aspect. And it is already hard for many to watch a whole NBA game due to the flopping and 3’s.

Explain why the ratings are dropping, engagement is low and even the commissioner is compelled to speak on it to save face?

It may be a game involved but this is still business. And the marketing had been terrible and the product overall needs a overhaul. Casuals are what drives ratings because most people aren’t diehard NBA fans

You'd think the numbers would be getting better with how great the series has been but nope. It's wild how many "fans" are just plain casuals. It's basically 90% casuals who just wanna talk about LeBron or a big city team
The NBA has not done a good job of marketing the new guys or the small markets they are in. They don’t give them prime time spots unless they are up against Steph or LeBron, there aren’t many commercials with these guys. They just act like these teams don’t exist until they end up in the finals

The officiating is annoying, no one wants to see a bunch of free throws. They have to stop calling so many touch fouls, it slows the game down too much. The hardcore fans tuned out once defense was outlawed and 3’s are the only way to score outside of the free throw line.
The players all have finesse below the rim games with the exception of a few.

Y’all can say these guys are more skilled and the pacing is so good but the fans don’t want to watch the product. The all star game being a joke is also not helping.

Unless it's gonna be a big market team in the Finals, it'll be tough going forward ratings wise because due to the CBA making superteams irrelevant you are gonna have small market teams making deep runs. At least in 2007 which was the lowest rated Finals there was hope because LeBron became LeBron the global superstar shortly thereafter. If the Pacers (or OKC) for that matter don't make it back, fans won't necessarily tune in for parity in the NBA. Sucks because it's good basketball being played but casual fans won't give a fukk, that just seems the way it's gonna be going forward unless somebody (Cooper Flagg maybe) takes the league by storm and goes on deep playoff runs.

People don’t know SGA, they don’t know Jalen Brunson, they don’t know most of these players. The only guy they hyped up was Ant and he isn’t the guy that you want people to be like with his 12 kids.
