I'm conflicted.
Part of me thinks this is an extension of participation trophy culture. Like, let's find more ways to award and celebrate people. It feels unnecessary.
On the other hand, I suppose it's a way to honor past greats as well.
I don't know. I guess I'd say that this didn't feel necessary. I don't think this filled a void or solved a problem.
It's okay. I don't think anyone will use these awards as any measuring stick though. X-player is a 2 time scoring champion, 1 time Finals MVP....AND 3 TIME LARRY BIRD AWARD WINNER. Doubt that's going to come up in barbershop debates.
