Baseball does

Totally different situation and not due to the playoffs. Those awards are based on the regular seasons. Baseball has way too many players so and 162 games make more sense for them to do that. Weak ass comparison

I'm conflicted.

Part of me thinks this is an extension of participation trophy culture

That shyt’s overblown. There were plenty of participation, runner-up, 8th place ribbons/medals/trophies in the 80s and 90s

8th place ribbons?

I don't remember that. Maybe for people who ran in marathons or a 5k.

This ish is dumb, especially since it is West & East Conf Finals.

Garbage

Only adjustment needed is to make (Steals, Scoring, Rebounds) awards based on totals vs averages. The player who scores the most points in the season should be the scoring champ, Not the player that has the higher per game average. This would eliminate some of the "rest" days for players.

Nope, because if you play less games, you're more than likely to have less totals. Per Game is perfectly fine, because the sample size is great enough.

Name them?

Look at it this way. The West & East CFMVP will be awarded to the two teams in the Finals, so you're giving the projected FMVP a Conf Finals trophy (for 2), and the inevitable loser an MVP...for being the best player on a losing team. How does that make sense? You just just give them rings too. They already get banners and a team trophy.

Why not simply name the Finals MVP the Playoffs MVP? There's a 99% chance it would be someone who played in the Finals and won, but it does open the pool a bit. No one would vote for a player that was knocked out in 1st Round.

You shouldnt win it for playing less games though. You want stars to play, this is the way to incentivize it. Gotta go play to get the awards
Player 1: scoring 32.5ppg playing 60 games shouldnt get the award over player 2: 32.4ppg playing 80 games. The player that scored the most points on the season should get the trophy.

Player 1: 1950 points = scoring champ
Player 2: 2592 points = runner up

Take what you know about the award and tell me why per game average makes sense. It doesnt. The person that scores the most points should be the scoring champ.

Missing games shouldnt be rewarded.

Thats like the hot dog eating champ tapping out at 6 minutes and winning because he ate 8 per minute (48 total) and winning over someone who ate 72 because he ate for all 12 minutes but only averaged 6 per minute.

Lol what's wrong with doing this? You literally have a trophy for winning the conference, so what's so wrong about adding an MVP award for it?
Yeah, there really shouldn’t be an issue here lol. Guys just get upset about anything that’s change.

Claiming this is a "participation trophy" is just stupid, how is being the best player on the court for one of the biggest series of the year a "participation trophy"? I swear some of y'all just repost the dumbest right-wing takes just because.

I don't like it for other reasons though.

But the goal of the ECF and WCF is to win the conference. It's a team goal, not an individual goal. Throwing in an individual goal detracts from the team effort in an unnecessary way. Why pit players on the same team against each other or have them competing with each other for an award when the playoffs ain't even done yet?

At least when you award Finals MVP the playoffs are already over. And winning a title is so clearly the big goal that no one gonna fukk that up for an individual accolade. But adding more individual awards early on is making a mess of things.
