All this seems designed to keep “Big Three” teams from happening through FA and to reward teams for keeping its own draft picks and free agents. Teams are going to want to sign guys to reasonable contracts early.
Bozo shyt… silver rather kneecap the dubs who is basically financing the entire league… they should be able to spend as they please
bro the Dubs are getting up there in years, this is about making sure no other team does what they did with KD through FA. They still got that money on the books but with Wiggins, plus Poole.

That wasn’t on the Dubs though as the players allowed that to happen by not smoothing the cap over like the owneees tried to tell them. That was an extremely rare situation that likely never happen again especially with the rising salary cap.

I don’t know, I think that team and all the FA big 3’s was seen was such an exploit this has been coming for a while. I’m surprised the union agreed to this, it’s going to cap out their mid tier vets to cheap salaries to ring chase or crappy teams. Silver has used the CBA and cap manipulation to end the “player empowerment” era. He’s push for a two star system and teams have to either draft, trade, and keep cap cost low to be competitive.

You can’t just bring over Lebron and Bosh or KD to your core and then add reasonable priced vets.

There was no system to exploit though as GS played on the same level as everyone else and creating that team naturally. They just benefitted from the cap spike and Steph making pennies at the time.

This isn’t that big of a deal real as the taxpayer were already limited in how much of the mid exception they could use anyways and the guys they used it on were moving the needle for the most part anyways and there was a reason why they could get tjem on the cheap.

If anything, it could put more emphasis on player development and young cheap guys who can fill those roles.
