Fits for 10 likely trade targets
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12333007/nba-brook-lopez-10-players-traded-week?refresh=true

With Sunday's All-Star Game in the rearview mirror, the NBA's attention shifts to Thursday's trade deadline. A historic pace for trades has slowed recently, but the urgency of the deadline tends to create deals.

Here's a look at 10 players who are most likely to be wearing different uniforms by the time the NBA schedule resumes after the break -- including sensible trades for each of them -- with the help of ESPN's Trade Machine.

Brandon Bass | PF | Boston Celtics

i

Bass
If active trader Danny Ainge can get any assets for impending free agents Bass, small forward Tayshaun Prince and shooting guard Marcus Thornton (the latter two are more likely to be bought out than traded), Ainge will surely take them. However, it's tough to find a good fit for Bass. The Toronto Raptors, with a number of players on expiring contracts at the end of the bench, make the most sense.

Brook Lopez | C | Brooklyn Nets

i

Lopez
The Nets passed on the offers they got for Lopez when he was on the market last month, but the deadline and a possible buyout for Kevin Garnett will force them to confront a harsh reality: Lopez and fellow center Mason Plumlee can't coexist. Brooklyn has been outscored by 17.7 points per 100 possessions in the 293 minutes Lopez and Plumlee have played together, per NBA.com/Stats. The Oklahoma City Thunder still look like the best fit for Lopez. If they added Reggie Jackson to the trade, would that tempt the Nets?

Arron Afflalo | SG | Denver Nuggets
Jameer Nelson | PG | Denver Nuggets

i

Afflalo
i

Nelson
ESPN's Marc Stein reported last week that the Nuggets are demanding a first-round pick for Afflalo, a high price for a player who can opt out of his contract this summer. The possibility of Afflalo leaving in free agency may drive down Denver's price, making Afflalo more palatable for contenders interested in fortifying their wing rotations such as the Chicago Bulls and Portland Trail Blazers. Portland seems more likely, since the Blazers could acquire Afflalo for expiring contracts without surrendering a rotation player. Wilson Chandler might be a better fit for Portland, but according to Stein, the Nuggets don't want to let him go.

Nelson has been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who could stand to upgrade at backup point guard, but it's tough to find a workable trade between the teams. A more likely destination for Nelson is Washington, where Andre Miller has fallen out of favor as John Wall's backup. The Wizards could swap the smaller expiring contracts of Drew Gooden and Garrett Temple along with picks for Nelson.

Andrea Bargnani | C | New York Knicks

i

Bargnani

Barring an unexpectedly huge buyout for Amar'e Stoudemire (more on him later), the Knicks find themselves a few million dollars over the luxury tax. With nothing to play for, New York can at least save James Dolan some money this season -- and, more importantly, down the line by avoiding the repeater tax in future years. The easiest move to get under the tax would be swapping Bargnani for Jason Richardson of the Philadelphia 76ers. Both players are in the final season of their contracts, and Richardson is making nearly $5 million less -- about how much the Knicks were over the tax line before Stoudemire's buyout.

Reggie Jackson | PG | Oklahoma City Thunder

i

Jackson

Even if Oklahoma City doesn't make a bold move such as trading for Lopez, Jackson might be dealt by Thursday. He's struggled since the Thunder acquired Dion Waiters, who's been cutting into Jackson's minutes. That deal also put Oklahoma City over the tax threshold, and the Thunder have never before paid the luxury tax. Dealing Jackson alone wouldn't get Oklahoma City under the tax line, but pairing him with Jeremy Lamb would do the trick. The Milwaukee Buckshave shown interest in young point guards despite Brandon Knight's breakout season and could take both contracts into cap space while replenishing the Thunder's stock of draft picks.

Andrew Nicholson | PF | Orlando Magic

i

Nicholson
Stein reported last week that the Magic are looking to deal Nicholson, who has been buried in the Orlando frontcourt. The Canadian's career basically hinges on whether he can extend his range beyond the 3-point line, making him a more efficient scorer. After shooting 31.2 percent on 3s last season, Nicholson is 8-of-15 in limited minutes in 2014-15. For now, Nicholson would make sense in a Knicks offense that values long 2s. The Magic could swap him straight up for Orlando native Shane Larkin, giving them a young point guard behind Elfrid Payton.

Goran Dragic | PG | Phoenix Suns
Isaiah Thomas | PG | Phoenix Suns

i

Dragic
i

Thomas

A Suns point guard might be the best player traded this week. That could apply to either Dragic, an All-NBA Third Team pick a year ago, or Sixth Man Award contender Thomas. If the Lakers are really prepared to offer Dragic a maximum contract this summer, as Stein suggested last week, Phoenix has to seriously think about trading him. Finding a good fit is tricky. Stein reports the Houston Rocketsare interested, but their best trade asset (Terrence Jones) makes little sense for the Suns. A three-way trade might be the way to go, with Jones heading to Denver and Phoenix landing one of the Nuggets' wings while getting the New Orleans Pelicans' first-round pick from Houston.

The Suns could more easily get value for Thomas, which explains their preference for trading the backup. One fascinating possibility: Swapping Thomas and Gerald Green to Miami for Luol Deng, which would solve the Heat's weakness at point guard and upgrade Phoenix at small forward.

Enes Kanter | F/C | Utah Jazz

i

Kanter

Kanter's public trade demand last week cut into the Jazz's leverage for shopping the restricted free agent, whose style doesn't match the team's vision. The bigger problem is finding a market for Kanter, with few teams in need of a big man who doesn't protect the rim. As with Bass, Toronto might be the best fit. Kanter would be an upgrade over Tyler Hansbrough off the bench. That might be enough to get the Raptors to part with a pick.

There's only one team in this league dumb enough to trade for Bargnani, and unfortunately they've already got him on their roster. Just buy that bum out.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
the pacers don't have a lot of assets and dragic is only a rental... They need a pg but I don't think this makes sense for them

He wouldn't be a rental for them, Bird tried to get him before and would resign him.

They have all their picks and owe nothing to anyone, so they do have assets in that regard.

its far from a sure thing tho when some very appealing big market teams will have the cap space to make better offers

They really have no other way to improve, they should have tanked this season but that didn't happen. For them, it has to be worth the risk cause what else are they going to do? They actually plan on bringing PG back in about a month, getting Goran right now would help insure that they're in the playoffs before hes back.

There's 6 teams fighting for the last two playoff spots

5 if the nets blow it up

It's far from a lock dragic gets them there

They should have tanked this year but blew it up

They won't be able to compete with the Knicks and lakers for dragic in free agency on any level

It's a risk

Plus its not like the pacers make it out the first round

They should go the opposite direction and trade west

@MySportsLegion: My man @SamAmicoFSO reports the Bucks are interested in trading for Bulls forward Taj Gibson.

thats a good look for the bucks if they make that happen. henson and illasova arent consistent enough. why would the bulls do this though? you still need that backup pf/c

I think the Pacers with Dragic would be almost a lock to make the playoffs, they are only 3 games out right now, their offense is horrific and adding Dragic to the equation fixes a lot of problems.

The Lakers will be awful next year and the Pacers would be better than the Knicks with Dragic, not sure why it's a forgone conclusion that the Knicks will go after Goran either, Phil isn't really known for being Point guard friendly.

It would be a risk to trade for him but bringing Paul George back next month is a huge risk and shows that making they playoffs is a priority for them, so I don't think they'd trade West just yet.
