you can be entertaining and know what you're talking about at the same time :dead:
entertainment is all that matters at the end of the day.

This stat driven culture has done nothing for the game except remove the diversity of playstyles and reduce the entertainment value.
Now they want to do that with the show too?:snoop:

The day i watch an NBA game where they take only 3s the entire game and then tune into Shaq going deep into analytics on why what i just saw was in fact great basketball will be the last time i ever tune in to an NBA game

The represent the fans. Nobody but writers like dude in Op are watching these shows or games with spreadsheet and memorizing the name, height, and statline of every player. And going on tv and reciting that stuff to us is boring as fukk too.
Basketball is a sport. Sports are entertainment. The inside the NBA show is for entertainment.
As long as they are being entertaining in a basketball context, they are doing their jobs right.
If you want me to remember your name or know who you are (Christian Wood) you gotta be entertaining too.
They’re on for hours every night. Nobody is telling them not to get their jokes in, but to interview a guy and not even know who he is but the fans do, is embarrassing. Covering the league every night and not knowing Christian Wood? smh

Not knowing the country of Jokic, who they’ve watched play dozens of times, even in a series against the Lakers 3 months ago. A perennial top 5-10 MVP candidate. Nobody looks down and sees:

Nikola Jokic - Denver Nuggets
2/19/1995
6’11” Serbia

its not stat driven culture - its actually knowing what the fukk you're about to be covering

at the very least these guys should be able to talk about key signings in the offseason, recent trends for teams, breakout players, etc. being aware of the stuff they're about to cover would actually make them better

the only time shaq does his research is when he's about to shyt on the next up and coming center. people complain about the casual takes and horrible marketing of the NBA - it starts with how the NBA allows their sport to be represented

*its wild because NBA/TNT coverage is dramatically better in the playoffs - where they're forced to watch the same teams play over and over again throughout a series.

This is not a term paper. I'm not grading them on their accuracy. Was the segment entertaining or not? Thats all i care about.

This isn't even a good faith argument, because i've seen it in boxing with Mayweather. Dude does everything technically right in the match. The commentator give you all the numbers and expert stats. He was 96% accurate blah blah blah. And then people complain that is boring as fukk.

are you entertained or are you not entertained? thats the only question the matters. Doesn't matter how much you get correct.

this is a borderline "being dumb is cool" take and you can have that :hubie:

you can speak to casual and the high level audience at the same time - and bringing casuals further into the talk only serves to increase engagement overall as well

there's no excuse for covering games and not knowing who's on the court

Just a pointless nitpick that addresses nothing about the bottomline is all i'm saying.

If you want super insightful analytic stuff then you can listen to Zach Lowe & the Ringer podcast.

NBA on TNT does just fine without y’all watching who want to hear about an 8th man’s shooting percent from 18 feet out during a night game on the Monday after a holiday

No need to get defensive breh. Please don't "ya'll" me. It's possible to have fun and be silly and actually talk about the game that is taking place without shytting all over it...Kenny does it all the time.

The people announcing the Mayweather fight study the guy he’s fighting though, and the undercard fighters, and generally present an entertaining broadcast with info about the opponent.

I can’t imagine Andre Ward announcing a Mayweather title fight and in the 6th round saying “I’ve never heard of this other guy but he’s a pretty good fighter.”

Dude, i'd rather have snoop in there like in the Nate Robinson fight having crazy reactions the whole time.
This is entertainment, like a movie or music video. nothing more. Stop taking this so seriously. this is why people tried to make them risk their lives and play during the height of the pandemic without any sort of plan.

Within the last week or so, Shaq has said on air that he didn’t know who Christian Wood or DeAndre Hunter until TNT showed their games that night.

I’m not sure why y’all keep being purposely obtuse. Nobody is asking Chuck or Shaq or Paul Pierce to memorize the Basketball-Reference stats of every player in the league. Folks are just asking for people who get to paid to cover the NBA to know who players are that aren’t household names. Or to not butcher the names of European/African stars.

This is quite literally bare minimum stuff, I’m not sure why it’s getting twisted into people asking for them in-depth analytical breakdowns :skip:
Oh don't worry. The minute Shaq or Barkley makes a :mjpls: comment, the same nikkas defending this shyt will avoid it like the plague.

My guy I’m a hawks fanatic. I’m pretty sure 94% of this board doesn’t know who DeAndre Hunter is either since the Hawks have had no national TV games in the past two years but that doesn’t upset me. Name recognition comes when the team gets better.

How many of y’all honestly knew who Christian Woods was before this free agency period if you weren’t a pistons fan :unimpressed:

y’all swear y’all know every single thing about every single NBA player.

y’all in here talking like they are former tennis players or nascar drivers who were hired to be NBA analysts.

Shaq and Chuck are two of the greatest players of all time. I’m pretty sure they know what the fukk they are talking about. Just because they weren’t familiar with a player who starting to make a name for himself and a guy in his 2nd season is enough for y’all to say they have no idea about basketball

Yeah these clowns aren't watching the games. You can't say the quality of today's game is trash if you not putting the time in to at least watch :yeshrug:

nobody watching tnt hoping for a 60 minutes interview...

It’s basketball and the shyt is for fun and entertainment and some serious moments like Kobe and other athletes passing or something with racial inequality

Me and my people were having a convo about this awhile ago
inside the nba is like the Joe Budden podcast

them nikkas is entertaining for their pull out the ass talking points, and comedy. But damn do they get on your nerve because of their ignorance.

Chuck and shaq are not gonna change, they the draw of the show. Kenny is gonna have to transform and become the heavy lifting as the intellectual part of the show and offer more insight and breakdown to makeup for Shaq and Chuck's ignorance who are not going anywhere(espescialy Chuck, who is to them what SAS is to ESPN)

but the majority dont tune into inside for that, i understand and agree partially with the writer. but it is what it is
