I salute you for being able to accomplish this, not many are able or have "resources" to offset what they aren't spending themselves, which I do suspect was in your case.
Man, those first five or so years out of college were painful. I hardly went out to expensive places because I knew that would garnish my check.

I still had my fun with my friends but I was on a budget. My friends called me tight but those same friends now tell me I was smart. They’re far from broke but they have a lot of credit card bills.

Thankfully, when I was dating, the women I was with were equally financially astute. They were more happy to spend time doing non-expensive activities, rather than dining at expensive restaurants every week.

I just smh when I see people buying expensive material shyt, but they’re still living in a shytty neighbourhood and barely pay the bills. If people really budgeted and spent money on necessities and not luxuries, you can easily make it out.

It’s about investing money in yourself, not everyone else. One of my boys was jobless and just being a fukk boy. I helped him get an apprenticeship in being an electrician and budgeting properly... six years later, he’s making six figures and has his own place.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
Haven’t read the whole thread but I’m shocked at how many people live hand to mouth. I guess that’s easy for me to say since I work in finance but even when I was young, I knew the importance of saving.

When I started my first job straight out of college, I made sure half of my pay check went into my savings. This meant I had to miss out on a lot of luxuries early on, but that allowed me to live in a nice apartment a few years later.

Then when I started my first career job, I would put 60-70% of my pay check into my savings. Years later, I had my first house and a car.

Now, I had have three funds. My instant access savings, which will cover me for 3 years if I lost my job.

My emergency funds which would cover me for 10 years if I lost my job.

And then my life savings which I could theoretically retire on.

I’m just amazed at people who don’t have the incentive to save. I get enjoying the money you work hard for but your job isn’t promised as well as tomorrow.

Damn bruh. How old are you?

:ohhh:

Also, I can’t have sympathy for anyone who claims to be broke but they keep on having children. I’m talking about married couples as well as single parents.

I’ve heard this so many times from supposedly well off people. Saying how they can’t cope with the expenses their children incur.

I tell them straight “no one told you to keep on having children.” And then they look at me like a heartless a$$hole, but they have no rebuttal.

I know if I had a child, more than half of my savings wouldn’t have existed. I’m glad I didn’t slip up and knock up anyone. When I see how much parents spend on their children, I just thank the lord my pull out game is strong.
I agree with this. And now it seems cool to have kids with baby daddies on purpose

I’m so glad that at my old age, I have no children and doesn’t want any

I want to thank all my homies in Los Angeles and Cleveland, oh who had kids at a early age and showing me how they struggle with buying diapers, food and dealing with the mother... that shyt made me realize I’m not cut out to be a father , cause I really don’t have patience

Man I work with people pulling dual 60-100k salaries getting bodied by childcare costs. One of my coworkers is dropping $1500 A MONTH in daycare costs. Combined with DC's high COL that shyt is killing them.

That could’ve been me. I was really irresponsible in my early years. I thank god I didn’t knock anyone up. I know brehs with good jobs who clutch their chest when they see child support coming out of their checks.

shyt is brutal but that could’ve easily been myself. I dodged quite a few bullets in my early scumbag years.

I’m not even thinking about children for the next five years, minimum.

My cousin live in DMV and just makes $40,000 a year and he living good... minimum debt, no kids and live within his means

My other cousin and his wife both live in DMV and combine to make $180,000 a year and has 2 kids, but they living check to check, cause of child care and his wife wants to compete with her girlfriends and their husbands

Would it be cheaper if one of them dropped their job to stay with the kids? But then again they might have to move to afford rent.

And yes I think DC has the most expensive child care cost in the nation.

One thing that make me SMH and I’m pretty sure every dude in here without kids hear it all the time is women with kids who hit u with

“ U DON’T HAVE KIDS?? U NEED TO HAVE KIDS”:stopitslime::francis:

And these words be coming from broads struggling to pay a kids meal at Wendy’s
Man you ain’t lying. And it’s usually church women trying to hook me up with their single mother nieces/daughters/cousins.

Man, the look I give them when they say “you should be married by now, have children by now. You’re selfish.”:stopitslime:

Nah, I’m happy and child-free. I have no paternal instincts at this moment in time. I don’t hate children but I see no benefit in having them at this point in my life. My most recent ex tried to pressure me into having a child with her. Man, I threw her into the bushes quick.
