I was thinking of buying a car this summer but with me possibly getting another job, I'm going to need a car to move around in a timely fashion. The only thing is I'm trying to figure out how much I should have and what kind of car is should buy. I'm a taller dude so Ive been way more comfy driving in SUVs and full size cars. Right now I have $2k so what I'm asking is:

How much more should I save for a good starter?
Whats a good reliable SUV (if there is one)?
Who are the companies ( other thna Toyota, Honda, and Nissan) that I should look out for?
and
What is the most mileage a car can have for me to consider buying it?

Thanks in advance.

there's tons of choices out there, especially for a tall guy.
a reliable truck/suv is a ford explorer.

u obviously have more choices if u were looking at (honda, nissan, & toyota)
hit up autotrader.com and customize the search options to what ur looking for in ur area, I'm sure u'll find something

unlimited metro pass for two years?

The Metrocard is really only convenient if you are moving around through BX and Manhattan but Queens Brooklyn LI and Staten are driver territories. The busses here come every 10-15 minutes but thats not good enough to my standards and stifle my liberty with time. with a car I dont have to wake up 45 minutes earlier and can get to point a to point b quicker. Plus I dont have to be surrounded by fukkboy HS kids and liverwurst smellin ass old ladies.

:dwillhuh:

That's winning out here. Average non peak bus frequency is 20-30 minutes plus. :scusthov:

I have a car and I don't mind taking the subway or the bus well the bus sort of..

Queens I can't imagine but I'm never out there.

Brooklyn is a bit of a task and I'm by the 3 and A.. meh
Extra chances to bump into cute girls

I can park easily where I live but a lot of places it's a task.

Anyways a car for 2k is never a good idea I like to say spend at least 10-12 for something nice and reliable.

Plus you have to keep in mind insurance, oil changes, tires, maintenance, gas it all adds up fast. If you can only put up the 2k how are you going to pay for incidentals. I wouldn't but that's just me.

10-12 is a stretch tho for my very first car dont you think? I dont wanna crunch it and think to myself " Damn now I gotta spend extra money to fix this shyt after I spent 10k"

I'm just tryna get a lil beater. A clunker tbh. I mean Im not going to be trudging every single day you kno?

Its not the subway though because if it was that I wouldn't even think of a car. Its the bus. The bus is just the worst move in my opinion. It's driving me insane to be standing around for 15 minutes waiting to swing around then transfer.

Besides, if I had 10-12k I'm not even thinking about a car. I'm thinking about a crib. Makes more sense to me to have a home than a car.

a 2K car is fine. you not gonna drive a 2k car for long, probably a year to save up for something better. if it dies on you then you sell it as junk and cop another 2K car to keep afloat.

the 2K car just keeps you from financing something and having monthly payments.

Sounds like you got your head on straight man, just save for the crib then.

I've wasted a lot of money on cars over the years.

Clunkers always need work, gas, and insurance still its really a lose lose.
Speaking from experience.

It's a tie up for me what I've wasted more on over the years whips or legal fees.

be smart

not really if you got the kinda budget where you'd even consider a 2K car then you probably can't afford the monthly payments on a 10K car and most def don't have the cash for a 10K car.

most people's first car cost under $1000. i'm talking about doing a Dave Ramsey style trade up plan where you cop a junk car and drive it till you get the money to trade up to the next car.

i got a $1800 beater right now and i'm gonna drive it till it dies. i haven't paid a dime to fix it and while its having issues now if all it cost me was $1800 and it last a year it was worth it to me. i just came off paying $421 car payments monthly and the insurance was an extra hundred and that car was a 14K car that didn't have issues when i bought it but started having them like 6 months later.

if you're really concerned about pumping money into a car then any used car you cop is gonna take your money. nobody gonna fix up a car to sell it.

TBH Its kinda what winb was saying. This is probably going to be for a year and then if the car goes to shyt I just open a zipcar account and roll with that. But legal fees? nikka wtf you been gettin mixed up in? lol
