Yeah, dude blew up. I remember seeing the country grammar video in the summer of 2000 on rap cityand saying to myself, this is a catchy song but nobody going to listen to a dude from St Louis. His album dropped and it did not debut well, fast forward a few months into the fall and his records were selling like hot cakes at an IHOP.
People got to understand....he went DIAMOND in the prime of Napster. That will never happen again, not in the rap game.

to be fair, napster was in its prime but alot of people didint have computers and those that did werent really privy to p2p sharing. fast foward to 2006/07 with phones and more laptops etc you have way more people on top of it.
most of the people who were on napster at first were just people tired of ftp searches that never yeilded shyt but snobby owners.

I have a great respect for Nelly. I thought Country Grammer was a fun and entertaining album, Nellyville was quietly a very good album, Tip Drill was dope and Sweat/Suit and even his subsequent 2 albums after that were very solid. I thought the St Lunatics were an entertaining crew, and Murphy Lee was dope in his own right. Nelly is an example of Black Excellence and maybe the last real rags to riches story. But overall I have to agree with Wacky's premise, Nelly did his thing.
