Country Grammar debuted at #3, not #1.

He was on a major too and being promoted as "the guy" from the midwest, so it wasn't really out of "nowhere" either.

im pretty sure it was #1. either way, he wasnt expected to do that. it was a big deal.

and no, he wasnt promoted as "the guy" from the midwest.

:duck:

Not a soul on this planet outside of STL had any idea whatsoever who Nelly was prior to Country Grammar (the single) blowing up...he was never promoted as "the guy" of anything other than maybe STL AFTER the fact...in the context of the national hip hop scene, he definitely did come from "nowhere"

:ooh:and we're not going to see anything like it anytime soon.

my man came out of nowhere with a monster hit, debuted at #1 selling way more than anybody expected him to sell. universal didnt even intend for him to sell like that. people forget that his promotion wasnt all that until AFTER he moved crazy units.

then he just kept hitting us over the head with monster hits back-to-back-to-back-to-back and quickly became the highest selling black artist.

When I first saw the "Country Grammar" video I liked it right away. I thought the video was hood too. It had that perfect hook. I didn't think i was going to get as big as it did though. A lot of people don't remember the unedited hook was hood as hell too. Street sweeper baby...
