Breh, who you wit was a hit in every confederate state atleast and that was in '96 so his success was while he was on with Dupri ..and then he did the bass style compilations in '96, '97 and '98, under Dupri...

JD ain’t have nothing to do with Who u Wit, yea Jon was on the bass projects but they were local and were not the style of music that introduced him to the masses. But ok,

I remember Bizzy Bone telling a story about Nelly giving Lazy Bone his demo in like ‘99 or so and he shytted on him for trying to sound like Wish lol…A Massive miss but Nelly was looked as a novelty act especially being from fukking St. Louis which was foreign to a lot of hip hop listeners at the time.

I grew up 3 hours away from St. Louis and coming up in the hood/country type of environment, I understood it even though I didn’t understand some of the slang Nelly was using but

Nelly is definitely a GOAT…not for his lyricism but for shifting the culture, creating a classic debut that went Diamond and creating timeless records.

There are known cases of labels fumbling projects from artists who later went on to major success.

T.I. is an example. His label fumbled I'm Serious. He got dropped, regrouped and became a superstar on another label.

Saying that Luda would have blown up regardless, and without the Def Jam muscle and leverage is speculation.

Was never a fan of either rapper but one of Luda's lines on Stomp alludes to what I posted here, and ethered Tip.

"Your deals keep getting fukked up, my contract practices abstinence!"

I remember the “I’m serious” cover wrapped suburban riding around Atlanta before that bum came out. He got some real attention with a subtle attic crew, dungeon fam, and Arista co-sign. The fact that the neptunes produced the lead single with a beanie man feature made me listen to the album. I ended up really liking it and it got played at a lot of house parties from front to back when I was in HS. Everybody co-signed “trap muzik”. Dude got a lot of love on that second lap.

I always wondered how Nelly got on without being part of the rap circuit.

Lunatics had underground music and they were shopping for a deal.

He tried to get signed by layzie bone. Layzie listened to his demo and called him a biter. Hence, why we never got any collabos from them.

Universal picked him up. He was part of that new talent iniative that they had. He could've easily ended up as a trivia question for magazine junkies like some of those other dudes in those adds like say Genoveese if the country grammar song didn't blow up like it did.

One of the greatest stories in hip-hop history.

JDs platform is still where he learned the game and he used it to launch his career...No JD means no Lil Jon
