I woke up this morning and had to post on this subject. Partly because it's the end of Black History month and I haven't seen nearly as much motivational shyt as you would think except for DrX's bullshyt post the other day
. I know you meant well but come on man. Anyways I did not post this in HL because the nikkas who need to read this don't visit HL. This is a long ass post but if you want to get up out your situation you better read it all
because this in this post is the advice on basically how I went from being underemployed and semi-dry dikk like many Coli members, living with 3 other roommates in a 4 BR, 2bath apartment - almost 2 hours away from the city, to making high 80's annually with a good Woman and living 45 min (on a bad commute day) away from NYC. All in roughly 4-5 years I was able to turn it around doing two things described in this post: Being open minded - To change especially, demanded myself that every time I hit a ceiling when something got too easy I would push myself even further. (Look up the "Peter Principle") Managers are promoted until incompetence - But the only reason they become considered "incompetent" is because they tell themselves they can't or
don't want to improve anymore.
We had some company over and our discussion inspired me to write about this. Especially in light about
@DrX 's post we need to give the young misguided nikkas proper guidance. A lot of Coli nikkas are struggling right now and I'm assuming you don't want to remain that way or don't want to end up broke after achieving a certain level of financial freedom. The reality is that being broke is not due to any one thing in particular,
it is the result of a set of circumstances that have tallied up against your favor. The goal of this post is to change your mindset to start building a set of circumstances fueled by decisions to stack the deck IN your favor.
There is a myth going around in this country I see that suddenly one day you can just get laid off and lose your job and go broke. Yes that was the end result: But what led up to that?
90% of the time it involved negligence on your end. Here is why:
- Have you been keeping abreast on the company's financial health? Can you name the top 5 biggest stakeholders in the company and do you know what their personality is?
- Are you aware of the status of political alliances of upper management?
- Ask yourself honestly: What would happen if you were laid off today and how much money would the company lose as a result? If the answer is less money than your salary - You are in danger of being laid off RIGHT NOW. If the answer is less than double your salary - Your job could be automated in the future. IT IS ONLY WHEN YOU MAKE THE COMPANY AT LEAST 3X YOUR SALARY OR 200% ROI THAT YOUR JOB IS SECURE. THE SAME STANDARD CAN BE HELD WHEN YOU ARE YOUR OWN BOSS AND PROVIDE B2B SERVICES - YOU NEED TO DEMONSTRATE VALUE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS/EMPLOYER - EVERYONE HAS A BOSS nikka EVEN THAT FOOD TRUCK VENDOR ON THE STREET.
Starting this process requires a few things: Put down the blunt, stop sipping the cognac, lower your ego, stop fukking low quality hoes unprotected. Set goals and grind. Stop the bullshyt: Get your diet on track stop eating Frito Lays and SIMPing for Women paying gas money and dates and shyt. Stop popping Molly and start popping multivitamins. Take that high paying job you would hate for one year and stack paper.
Make sacrifices. Even if they are small ones to start with. This is what CACs and Asian dudes do and how they get ahead of us in life. This is what I had to do to a certain degree after graduating U to get on track. You are no exception.
Success happens when opportunity meets preparation. But a lot of the preparation is just in your mindset. Some nikkas are not ready for success
MENTALLY which requires you to adapt to change and have a different perspective from the situation you grew up in. A lot of recruiters ask me one question. They are like:
"You are qualified for the job clearly but we've had difficulty filling this role because it requires _______ mentality which most people don't have. Are you comfortable with that?"
I'm not saying accept any bullshyt opportunity that comes your way, but don't be afraid to get into the mix where there is a clear opportunity to make a visible impact and have your name associated with a big industry shift happening. Don't be afraid to get in the weeds and work with CACs if it's a clear step up that could get you on the big league radar. Learn to take calculated risks and when it's the right type of challenge. A lot of nikkas won't take certain high paying good jobs because they are fearful of sabotage, not confident in their ability and "Don't want to serve the Man". nikka - We can't make progress if we all have that attitude. Some nikkas need to serve as sentinels and learn from what these CACs are doing and replicate that in the hood.
The problem is a lot of times we as a people don't want to do things out of our comfort zone or broken community. nikkas get complacent and say "Well I'm doing better compared to a lot of people, I'm OK". nikka no you not OK. When people rest on their laurels they eventually slide into failure. Progress will leave you behind. Dudes in the IT industry know this - You can't just be talking about the wonders of Adobe Flash. nikka we on HTLM5 already are you sleeping?
The people who never seem to fail in life too badly - Those people the only difference between them and you is they
never stop hustling even when they get paid:
They are always
ahead of the trend, they are always looking 5-10 years in the future. Sure you take time to rest and relax, but eventually that has to end and nikka you got to grind again.
The grind doesn't stop until you are 6 feet under. Look at Richard Branson, he is the prime example of a CAC empire but hasn't stopped trying to beat his own achievements and hit his own goal posts. His goal posts are 100x higher than the average CEOs. The average CEO is just trying to make it to next quarter without being fired - The difference is Richard Branson is trying to make it into the
NEXT DECADE with 3,000% more profit:
The morale of the story is keep reaching, and reach as high as you realistically can plan to go. If you don't stop moving you can't get caught up in non-sense. There are a lot of nikkas that aim real low and of course they fall in the gutter.
These the same nikkas on the block that will try and disrupt your flow and operations. You got to change your environment a lot of times and live around others that grind - no matter their race. Move the fukk out the ghetto and small boondocks however the fukk you can. No you are not "Selling Out" - You are Making Moves.
The mentality that kills us as young black men is: "Let me just smoke
this blunt and chill", "Let me just fukk
this stupid bytch and YOLO", "Let me just make
this paper today and that's all that matters", "fukk the world, I'm good", "nikka you don't KNOW ME"...
shyt's all about the here and now and not tomorrow with them.
All of these phrases are said by bum ass nikkas in the bottom. Meanwhile this is what these rising nikkas be saying:
"I'll see you at the
top", "Let's make shyt happen","Let's get it poppin", "We stay on the grind". Subtle difference but it's a different mentality behind it.
The problem is the latter is often said by nikkas making paper illegally. But why can't it be legal? Why can nikkas only grind when it comes to quick dangerous cash flow and instant gratification? Instead of flipping packs we need to be shorting stocks. Instead of transporting product we need to be transporting merchandise.
There are a lot of dudes on here that are like "I got dat CDL I'm a boss now". What I'm saying is that needs to change into
"I got the CDL, now we need to get this lock on an entire logistics route and own this shyt" Since a lot of nikkas love drug dealers I'll reference Pablo Escobar. fukk dominating just Medellin. We aiming for Bogota, the capital. nikkas are still in slavery thinking just about the 4 block radius around their crew or set. But they don't aim on how to collaborate and dominate an entire ZipCode, and I'm talking fully like the Cosa Nostra used to do -
But legally. Buy real estate, buy businesses, everything. Buy the local politicians.
The path to greatness is easier and closer than you think but it isn't glamorous and won't make you popular until you damn near own it all. It's delayed gratification and it's aiming high up. nikkas need to learn and get on it already. We already way behind the 8-ball on this important mentality.
The Chinese buying up Amerikkka right beneath CACs noses. They not in the streets talking about busting shots or glocking up or bringing heat.
They silently signing deeds, giving out loans all the while their cousins serving us pork fried rice and shyt laughing all the way to the bank.
Start hustling legally in the most effective way - START TODAY.
You can develop analysis paralysis but, you can never learn too much. Go on Quora (under finance/self improvement/career), Reddit (under finance/self improvement/career), Rockstar Finance, Wall Street Playboys, etc. Pick up a copy of The Power of Habit, Think & Grow Rich, $100 Startup, Rework, 4 Hour Workweek, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Wealth of Nations and The Millionaire Fast Lane. Go on Youtube and start watching various videos about career development, business or self improvement. Apply everything you learn. See what works. Throw out what doesn't.
