Never Forget is a thread series where you and I - your host, Taadow - revisit some old hits that we may have placed in the attic of our minds. Today, The Abstract - "Vivrant Thing".

"B-B-BUT WAS IT REALLY A HIT??"

UK Singles Peak: #39
US Billboard Hot 100 Peak: #26
US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Peak: #7
US Hot Rap Songs Peak: #10
US R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay: #1
US Radio Songs Peak: #16
US Rhythmic Songs Peak: #15

AFTERMATH:

- First thought many had: "Nicca...what the fucc does 'vivrant' mean??
I mean, I know what 'vibrant' means...but that ain't what he said..."

- Second thought many had: "What the fucc is this chit?? I see why Tribe broke up if
this is what Tip comin' out the box with..."

For reals, doe - this was one of those that had to grow on you. It just...wasn't what
you would've expected from Q-Tip, especially as his first solo single. It was a cool
li'l cut you could bop to at the party, doe. Now "Breathe & Stop" after this??
Lord, no. But that was a hit, too!
For some reason, Q-Tip is teflon. His rep never takes Ls.

I was a little skeptical of this blowing up so fast. This is one of the first songs I had suspicions of
being one of those cuts Def Jam might paid DJs to spin, because it got hella play.

- sidebar: the video gave us Leila Arceli, who is one of the greatest video broads of all-time.
OF ALL-TIME.

Absolutely hated this song when it dropped and hate it now. I remember this and breathe and stop were like the same video and the same song. GARBAGE.

Tip was salty that while Tribe was successful, they didn't get to say a death row or bad boy type of success, despite how great their music was. This was his attempt at going mainstream.

I def see why Tribe broke up, and why they lost their chemistry after midnight marauders. Tip turned wack.

I was a kid so I didn't quite understand what was happening. My older cousin was a hip hop head so I knew who Q tip was.... but this? I was confused lmao. Can't deny that it was hotter that lava though.

Going from the head sprung thread to this one makes me realize how similar both beats are :dwillhuh:
Someone needs to do a mashup
