If you want more money. Get a new job.
Never use a new offer to renegotiate your current job :childplease: they might say yes but they will start looking for your replacement.
That's the trade-off. You don't get a notice either when you're about to get fired. If he is that important they will bend.

So basically what everyone is saying is correct. It's only been 2 months, in the future research the position and the salary ranges for your location and negotiate. Being that this is your first IT job, sounds like you didn't have much wiggle room. But definitely in the future. Get as much experience as you can now and next time around go with the the higher side of the salary range for your request. If a recruiter ask you how much you make at your current job when you start searching again, tell em at least 10K more. (I always tell them 15K)

If your adamant about asking for a new salary in 6 months, ask for the full 15K, if they are willing to play ball they will most likely counter with a lower offer. So if you ask for 10K the might offer 5K, see what I mean? Also be prepared to jump around. I'm happy you got your first IT job but raises these days are what 2%-5% it will take you YEARS just to get up to 60K naturally. So just work hard, get the experience, shoot for another position there if it opens up. But like @krexzen said, you'll laugh at this in a few years. It's a business and someone just got you for 50K, so what are you going to do about it?

Appreciate all the advice guys. I talked to my manager and he gives really solid advice. He told me I’m already ahead of the game because I got 2 new Microsoft certs since working here. He says getting Microsoft certs will be key. Which will be doable since this company pays for them

What is the pay band for your role? $15K is a pretty big difference given the salary you're making. I would say though it's not good to negotiate by comparing salaries as the company discourages disclosing salaries anyways. What I'd do is wait 6 months, complete some projects in that span and show your value to the company. Then ask for a raise and state why. Continue to use the company to pay for the certs. If they're unwilling to budge then look elsewhere. The best pay increase is a new job.

He told me he didn’t negotiate
He lied to you. My guess hes probably making more. Rules of the game is you never tell a coworker how much you make. And if you do, lie and say you make less than you actually do.

i once told a coworker how much i was making. We were in different departments. She went and complain to her Boss, who then came and reported me to the head of my department.

yall do the same job/task?

I'm speaking as a person who Manages employes and been through this scenario with employees and myself included.

When referring to raises, I always push for raises for employess who work hard and complete the task at hand. So it does not matter if they been there 2 months or 6 months, I will push for a raise because I still want to keep them around.

There are managers/companies who say to themselves that if they have an employee who makes X ammount of dollars and is able to complete a heavy work load, why should I pay him more, I'm actually saving money and if he leave I can always find a replacement.

Then there are other managers who say, I have this employee who makes X ammount of dollars and is able to complete this heavy work load, he should get paid more, because he may leave.

I believe you have been at your company for 3 months and you have showed that you are willing to take on extra assignments and even pursue further certifications/education, you are due for a raise.

I went through this before and what I always have done was keep my resume updated, and accessible to recruiters and sometimes you have to go to another job for the extra money.

I think it's too soon to ask for a raise, but thank you! I am going to continue to keep working hard(er) and pursue my education. I really don't take this lightly.

Quickest way to get a raise is to job hop (in a healthy way). You could probably commande 75k or some shyt out there in the open market just like breh came up at y'all spot. Don't sell yourself short

1) Don't converse with people in your workplace about income. That's corny, and will inevitably lead to the jealousy you're feeling right now.

2) Stop worrying about what other men are doing and comparing yourself to other men. I started making 41k 8 years ago and now I'm over 100. Get your experience and move to another position in two years. There's an abundance of jobs out here.

A couple of years back, the helpdesk found out that 2 new hires were getting paid 10-15k more than them. There was a near riot and perma-walkout in the dept. They got their raises.

With that said, you're young enough that in a year, you can jump to another company if they're not paying right. If you're happy with 50k, do what you do and worry about pay come review time.
