And honestly, nobody took the NBA Finals seriously back then. Everyone knew the West Finals was the real NBA Finals. That's why the 2002 Kings/Lakers series is talked about so much. That was the de-facto NBA finals that year and it was when the Lakers were most vunerable.

Same reason everyone praises that 2001 Lakers team. They were through the West that year undefeated when it was beastly. Lotta people were picking San Antonio to beat them cause they had home court and outplayed them in the regular season. Then Kobe and Shaq came through and demolished them in 4 games and it had everyone going is this the best team of all-time.

The 2000 Blazers/Lakers series is one of the greatest in NBA history. Same with the 2002 Lakers/Kings series. That was a level of basketball much higher than what we see now.

Just think about how badly Kobe's ankle had to be injured for him to miss a finals game? He came back for Game 4 when the prognosis was that he would miss 2-3 weeks with the severe ankle injury.

In game 4, while not being close to 100%, and with the series being 2-1, Kobe took over the game in the 4th quarter after Shaq fouled out. He hit a series of clutch shots and led the Lakers with Shaq on the bench to a win over the Pacers and a 3-1 led that basically locked up the championship.

The 2000 NBA finals is one of his greatest performances ever given the circumstances. Kobe played injured and still came through with the biggest performance of the series in the biggest game. As someone who was alive when that series was played, I know what happened. You being some lil kid that never watched those games, you wouldn't know all the context behind those numbers.
