pacers weren't trash, reggie blew that series in game 1 with that horrific shooting performance and they let the lakers off the hook in game 4.

all three of those teams were fukking trashhhhh boy

That's the reason we tell you idiots the Finals MVP in 2000-02 don't matter. Back then the REAL NBA Finals (like it was this past season) was always in the Western Conference Finals against the '00 Blazers, '01 Spurs, '02 Kings. All series where Kobe either outplayed Shaq or played him to a draw.

If the NBA got rid of conferences then those would have been the Finals those years. And Kobe woulda got at least 1 Finals MVP.

Bron stans yall

Nah. This is one time they're right. Those finals opponents were hot trash cause the East was so weak back then. The real NBA finals those seasons was always in the Western Conference Finals against the Blazers, Spurs, and Kings. That why Shaq winning 3 Finals MVPs doesn't mean much during those years. He was simply beating up on weak competition. Sorta like LeBron does now in the East only to get exposed in the Finals every year. When the Lakers played their toughest competition back in those years, it was Kobe leading them to victory.

In game 7 of the 2000 Western Conference Finals, it was Kobe that outplayed Shaq and led the Lakers to the come from behind victory.

In 2001, it was Kobe that led the way against the Spurs in a sweep that shocked the basketball world.

And in 2002, it was Kobe and Shaq working as equal partners leading the Lakers to that 7 games series win over the Kings.

Against their toughest opponents during that 3peat, it was Kobe not Shaq leading the way. Shaq just got the feed on the bottom feeders when the Lakers played the Eastern Conference teams.

Good post.

Kobe and Phil just let Shaq get those Finals MVPs to feed his ego. Same way in Game 4 KD was trying to let Steph win Finals MVP cause he knew his lil ego needed it. Too bad the plan failed and the media still voted for KD. But the thinking was the same.

Shaq woulda acted like a spoiled brat if Kobe won those Finals MVPs so Kobe being more mature let Shaq stroke his ego. However, when they faced real competition in the Western Conference that could potentially eliminate them, it was ALWAYS Kobe coming through in the clutch and leading them.

Even in their one NBA finals that was competitive (2000 vs the Pacers), it was Kobe that had the best game in the all-important Game 4 where Shaq fouled out. Kobe led the team to victory in the NBA Finals and solidified himself as an all-time great with that performance.

Kobe averaged 15ppg 36% against the Pacers

Nicca was Arron Aflalo with an mini fro :mjlol:

Thanks for proving your just some lil 15 year old kid that never even watched those finals and gets his information just from looking up stats on Basketball Reference.

You do know Kobe sprained his ankle badly in the first few minutes of game 2? In a series where you only play 5 games, only playing a few minutes in one game can mess up your per game averages big time. Kobe then missed all of game 3 of the NBA Finals (which the Lakers lost). Just think about how badly Kobe's ankle had to be injured for him to miss a finals game? He came back for Game 4 when the prognosis was that he would miss 2-3 weeks with the severe ankle injury.

In game 4, while not being close to 100%, and with the series being 2-1, Kobe took over the game in the 4th quarter after Shaq fouled out. He hit a series of clutch shots and led the Lakers with Shaq on the bench to a win over the Pacers and a 3-1 led that basically locked up the championship.

The 2000 NBA finals is one of his greatest performances ever given the circumstances. Kobe played injured and still came through with the biggest performance of the series in the biggest game. As someone who was alive when that series was played, I know what happened. You being some lil kid that never watched those games, you wouldn't know all the context behind those numbers.
