I think the product is inseparable from the artist himself.

And are there any examples of Wale doing something like this on this level? Everytime somebody says something like "if X would have done this" for any artist they always just say it and never go any deeper. It comes off as just being mad that your guy isn't getting the same shine.

And that's not Kendrick's fault that Wale isn't getting the shine he deserves, that his teams fault.

Come on man, these cliches? That performance is what a live instrumentation and live performance version of the God Smile would feel like.

Second, of course the product is separable from the artist when we are the discussing the artist's individual merits. You can have a dope producing team and have a mediocre voice. You can be a great emcee but choose horrible production, etc. Obviously, Kendrick is very hands-on with his work and is a part of this process, but on a general level, my point was about the "sounds" he's using. @Insensitive loves jazzy shyt. It's the same way I love stuff like this:

Damn he must have been trash before if yal praising his 'stage performance' now. Went to his show a few months back and it was status. He's not great live IMO.
