You’d be one of those people mocking Noah for building an ark in the Noah fable.

Science tells us what is ahead. How stupid do you have to be to be willing to die for a fukking ideology?
Fear mongering is lame, regardless of the intent.:snooze:
He's been at this for like 20 years, its how he makes a living.

I got two things from this documentary: Either we hope and pray for some clean form of technology that will allow us to maintain our life style OR we radically reduce our consumption.

The average American will never accept a reduction in their consumption and the Chinese are hell bent on emulating the western lifestyle. I feel that collapae our ecosystem will force us to change our lives whether we want to or not. But by that time it will be too late to anythinh about it.

Most environmentalist groups focus too heavily on climate change and over look the the underlying issue of over consumption.

The documentary does touch on over population which I do not completely agree with. We have a over consumption problem not an over population problem.

I'm intrigued. Not a Michael Moore fan but I agree 100% with that summary you just gave, especially the part about too much focus on climate change.

Conservatives think that science/environmentalism is fake news and liberals think it can all be solved by better technology. Both will fail. The entire name of the game is over-consumption and addressing THAT is our only way out of this mess.

Finished it, very good documentary.

It didn't go as deep on consumption as I would have liked. The emphasis on biomass and the left being misled could have been combined with potential solutions and tradeoffs. Thus, the viewer was left without a high degree of clarity as to what process will lead to the best results.

I haven't watched the documentary but if what Moore is saying lines up with what the experts have and continue to have said.

It's not fear mongering but the frightening reality we live in.

One of my university professors told me we would need 5 earths if the entire world consumed like the west did.
I thought it was 4 Earths but that might have been a full decade ago so it's probably gotten worse.

The degree of destruction we readily engage in just isn't sustainable. And the technological fixes are bullshyt because it ain't just unsustainable on one level, we're fukking things up on a LOT of levels. You'll notice that every time they come up with some new technology to make some aspect of our consumption "better", the mass production of that new technology invariably overutilizes some other resource that then fukks a new thing up. Electric car batteries require the mining of all sorts of shyt that destroys untouched ecosytems and creates a lot of toxic waste. Wind farms kill birds in huge quantities and fukk up thousands of acres of local ecosystem. Ecotourism creates an insane amount of carbon output from international flights and often disrupts local communities and ecosystems.

That's not to say that we don't need to shift away from our fossil fuel based economy and other overreaches. It's just that we need to do it WHILE reduing total consumption at the same time. If we think a mere technological solution is going to save us, we'll merely pass from one disaster to the next.

Subs.

The whole world is gonna look like Bangladesh or Rio favelas if we don't fix something in the next 50 years.

The problem is, we always think we have time to fix something until we don't.

I've been saying Covid19 is the soft reset before nature hits us with the full shutdown if we don't fix things.

:francis:But scaring people in order to get them to do/behave as you want, or believe they should, will never sit well with me.
