Tyler Perry continues to give black actors work and his movies and TV shows generally have a primary black cast. I don't like a lot of his stuff, but instead of whining about Hollywood not making movies featuring us, he does it on his own.

Not only that, Tyler Perry doesn’t put Black people in “c00n” roles. In his movies, usually all of the characters in charge are Black, and any time there’s super buffoonish characters, it’s usually a white guy.

People can trash the quality of his work, but he low key is the most pro Black creator out here.

A lot of his films do lend itself to harmful, stereotypical tropes with a tinge of colorism in it.

The dark-skinned man being the menace, the troublemaker or a good-for nothing person who mistreats his partner and then the light-skinned pretty boy swoops in to save the day and sweep her off her feet.

I rock with TP for what and who he is. I know half the stuff is gonna be rushed, bad scripts, lots of pregnant pauses and repeating lines. But I watch Ruthless, Sistas, The Oval, and a little Zatima cuz my wife watches it…all in all you know what TP is doing

But he employs lots of black actors, crews, and workers. So I take the good with the bad. Sometimes he makes decent stuff, but overwhelmingly, it’s usually stereotypical BS, microwave ish with no much depth. So he can brag about “catering to his audience” and whatnot, but he doesn’t even try to give quality. Let’s put out a bunch of stuff and see what sticks. So you usually know what you get with him, no point of criticizing

If Tyler Perry allowed Black *writers* and videographers to shine - I’d feel differently about him.
He’s the equivalent of a content creator as opposed to a movie and television producer and writer - he’s making slop for the sake of making slop - instead of doing what he *should* be doing, which is creating a hub for the finest of Black Hollywood.
