I'll pass.

I can never ever invest in Tyler Perry ever again after watching one of his Madea's.. :camby:

I wish Martin Lawrence still made movies..

I hope that 4 days didn’t mean he skimped on production costs…that’s all I hear when someone says “hey, I did this fast”

A lot of his films do lend itself to harmful, stereotypical tropes with a tinge of colorism in it.

The dark-skinned man being the menace, the troublemaker or a good-for nothing person who mistreats his partner and then the light-skinned pretty boy swoops in to save the day and sweep her off her feet.
There is a pattern.

Is the pattern bad though?

Like look at movies with white casts, I mean movies with no black in it, no minorities to shyt on.

White people cover all the bad angles, terrorist, white trash, rapists, murderers. And the good white guy, the moral white guy saves the day.

And minus the tinge of excellence or justification for the villain (i.e he's a genius, or some tragic story that makes viewers empathize with him or say "well I completely understand why he went crazy) people separate the characters from the actors or the characters from real life stigmas.

People say this but it’s clear yall don’t actually watch his movies, you’re going off of what you heard others say. He has just as many moves where the light skin is the villain and the hero is the darker guy.

Tyler Perry continues to give black actors work and his movies and TV shows generally have a primary black cast. I don't like a lot of his stuff, but instead of whining about Hollywood not making movies featuring us, he does it on his own. :manny:

He has ruined black cinema for over 2 decades now.
Both things can be true 🤷🏾‍♀️
That I'm not mad about at all. Despite my gripes with his shytty played out antics involving samey topics and Madea nonsense, the bag is the bag. When he cooks, he cooks...but the rest of the trash :scust:
Yep.

It’s crazy how he truly does have quality films under his belt, but then…….we’ve seen the rest

If Tyler Perry allowed Black *writers* and videographers to shine - I’d feel differently about him.
He’s the equivalent of a content creator as opposed to a movie and television producer and writer - he’s making slop for the sake of making slop - instead of doing what he *should* be doing, which is creating a hub for the finest of Black Hollywood.
This right here. He been making slop for years and if he was really in it for us, where is the next up and comer from his tutelage/lineage? He doesn't have anyone. He has all the money but not willing to empower other young black directors/producers/writers or at least I haven't seen any. Props for hiring black actors and keeping them employed but some power moves need to be made where we start seeing some new directors/producers/writers at the table.
