Basically J Cole tells stories all the time, but is wholly limited to only his own perspective. He's incapable of looking outside of himself.
I'm listening to this Dreams song right now and picking up on the same issue.

I get some help?" Now he's talking to this girl and the whole conversation is just...him.
Big Sean is better at what he does (on a couple songs), punchline rapping than J Cole is at what he does, story telling rap. That's why he gets the nod over Cole, occasionally.
And J Cole is nowhere close to Kendrick's level in his own lane. I could write for all day why it's blasphemy people rank them so close together.
Maybe in a different thread...another day.
