not bothered to read this thread but hip hop seems to be having a pretty decent year full stop... on another point what other genre of music narrows itself down into cities.... " yea new york rock music is so much better than atlanta rock music" ermmm do u realise how rediculous that sounds.. and i dont even listen to rock music..
I don't listen to much music besides hip hop, but there are certain examples. New York punk vs. London punk, I think I saw fans talking shyt about the other city's scene on a vh1 thing. "British Invasion", "San Francisco sound", grunge is Seattle, country ass tennessee music.. Actually, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they got a city-by-city exhibit. Motown cranking out them fine-tuned hits like a Detroit auto factory, while the sounds from Memphis soul were more raw.
The city you're from contributes to the experiences you have, which help shape your music. Seattle is rainy, so they got depressed music. San Francisco was on all sorts of drugs, so they had psychadelic music. In hip hop, gangsta rap became big in the West Coast, while mafioso rap became big in NY where the 5 families were. Miami and Atlanta be making music for the clubs cuz of those cities' nightlife. It contributes to your preference of why you like the music
