O snap the the Jets front office has made two good decisions in a row, Decker is a very good player, and Geno could definitely use another guy aside from Kerley. (I think the Jets not chasing after Revis is a good long term decision, imo)

How when it wouldn't have hurt our salary cap?

Breakdown of the Decker deal

2014

Signing bonus: $7.5 million

Base salary: $2.5 million

Cap charge: $4.0 million

2015

Base salary: $5.0 million (guaranteed)

Cap charge: $6.5 million

2016

Base salary: $6.5 million

Cap charge: $8.0 million

2017

Base salary: $7.25 million

Cap charge: $8.75 million

2018

Base salary: $7.5 million

Cap charge: $9.0 million

The deal works for the Jets because they can get out of it after two years with minimal cap damage if they decide he's not worth it. Basically, it's a two-year, $15 million contract. The cap charges balloon in the third year, which means he has two years to prove himself as a very good No. 2 receiver or a lower-tier No. 1.

That's a great contract for a talent like Decker. The ability to get out of the contract is especially poignant. At worst Decker is sure-handed #2 that can share the receiving load with Kerley. This state of affairs will take the load off whatever incoming receiver managements brings in to line up on the other side, providing said receiver the opportunity to make plays without solidifying himself as the #1.

That's what impresses me most. If for some reason he turns out to be trash or doesn't work, we can release him without much financial repercussion.

Here's something else to think about...

5 years, 42.5 million, 20 mil guaranteed.

That was the contract given to none other than Pierre Garcon. You know, the same Garcon that like Decker was dismissed as a product of Manning. Unlike Decker though, he never had as much success with Manning as Decker did (Garcon never reached 1000 yards while playing with Peyton). And last year Garcon had a great year, putting up 100+ receptions and 1300) yards with a one legged RG3 (and Kirk Cousins). He proved that he wasn't a product of Manning.

I don't see any reason why Decker can't do the same. And he's not even getting paid as much as Pierre.

The I in Team
Kerely was the NFL's leading receiver on 3rd down catches until he got hurt.

Jets were 0--4 without him in the line up and 8-4 with him in it. Dude is going to be a STUD slot guy....you don't KNOW HIM....straight up.

The narrative is the Geno thing. It's you guys that think he failed because he had to throw to Clyde Gates, Ben Obomanu, Jordan White, Titus Ryan, Joe Collins and Ryan Spadola all year. Like Geno didn't have the worst ranked guard in the NFL giving up 11 sacks....yet Geno was the 4th ranked QB in completion percentage of passes over 25 yards in the NFL...something Decker fits better than ANY receiver he has now.

fukk dumb ass narratives.

Preach the gospel of kerley to these non believers. Tired of nikkas that don't even watch the squad telling us what we should know.
