And ESPN.

:skip: Why is nikkas in this thread elated for this?

Edit:. Haven’t watched combine in years….do they still do that wonderlic type test that the NFL does?

nikkas is happy about kids getting asked if their moms is a streetwalker?

:aicmon:Dez Bryant should’ve split buddy
Yea this is stupid for nba. Nfl you can turn measurables into a position. Hoops? Not so much

read the last part of the sentence. Some players angle to get to certain destinations
And that still happens. This doesn’t deter from that.
so more players can forgo the draft and choose which team they wanna go to like Austin Reeves did. As a Lakers fan...i can dig it. They may lose out on a lil money but with NIL deals and sponsorships, players may be less desperate for those extra hundred thousands.
Incorrect. If you’re not at the combine, you’re ineligible, meaning you better find somewhere to play while you wait for the next draft to come around.

True. Raw athleticism and strength have a weaker correlation to basketball prowess than football prowess , all relatively speaking

So if a player is deemed ineligible for not participating, could they sign with any team as a free agent?

Players who are physically unable to participate, due to playing with a FIBA club still in-season, family tragedy, the birth of a child, or due to injury, as determined by the medical director of the combine, will be required to complete components at a later date. Failure to do so will result in being ineligible to be selected on draft night.
-------------------------

What about players who aren't invited to the combine?
Damn, they really aren't messing around with this.

The pool of undrafted talented may actually improve because we all know there's going to be some mishaps with some good players not being draft eligible over missing the combine for whatever reason.

That’s not how it works

Austin Reaves did the draft process: went to the combine, worked out/interviewed with multiple teams. What happened was the Lakers promised him they would give him a two-way deal if he went undrafted, so when another team wanted to take him in the 2nd to add him on a two-way, he had his agent ask them not to so he could go to LA.

With this rule a player would be ineligible for the draft period that year and if I’m not mistaken you can’t enter the NBA without being eligible for the draft at least once, even if you don’t get picked.

this will backfire on these owners.

players going to be tanking their combine so they don't get drafted by shytty franchises then showing out in private workouts where they wanna play:lolbron:

the combine is a showcase for everyone, but you can still duck meetings and backdoor channel your way to where you're tryna be.

Players will also be required to conduct team interviews, media circuits, player development sessions and other assessments, as determined by the NBA in consultation with the NBPA. Players will not be compelled to compete in 5-on-5 scrimmaging, which typically only a handful of first-round prospects elect to participate in.

This represents a significant shift in favor of NBA teams that have long lobbied for this rule change. In the past, agents of elite prospects would regularly strategize to keep medicals of clients away from less-attractive franchises in hopes of steering their players to preferred destinations, something that will no longer be possible.

So for example if a lottery type pick decided to skip that jawn, could they still sign on as a free agent :jbhmm: Cause if that's the case somebody with enough hype just gonna skip it and just sign with who they want.

I’m going to assume they Likely have something written where they must go through the entire draft process fully and after that they can chose to sign wherever. Basically you will have to do All of this In order to be allowed to play in the nba. even if they are foreign based players.

This will allow all draft eligible players to at least be height and weighted. And the players still can participate in 1 vs 1 or team individual workouts. It seems like these workouts is where they build the most hype outside of their college/amateur/pro game tape.

so what would stop them from signing to a g league team on a 2 way? Do you have to go thru the draft process to join a g league team?
