It was more than that from some people.
When you have headlines saying XBL is back and PSN is still down, you can't fault people for the perception that XBL is the better service.

3. The fact remains PS4 and XB1 have indistinguishable online service in terms of multiplayer gaming experience.
The perception that XBL is better than PSN stems from the long period of time PSN was down during the PS3 era.
It was easy for 360 fans to laugh at Sony and say "This is the level of service you can expect from a FREE service".
I even based all of my game purchases around the crippled PSN during the PS3 time. I purposely bought all of my multiplayer games for 360 and single player games for PS3. That's how much I had personally given up on PSN at the time.
Today the services cost the same and offer the same experience. Again, strictly in regards to the online experience.

This has not been the case with PS4.
